Pistol

Glock, and I'm serious. For $450-$500 you can purchase one of the best pistols ever made. Can't imagine why anyone would spend 3/4 of that on any pistol with a question mark. With the exception of trading in which you can end up with anything. The best dollar spent in the pistol world is Glock by a huge margin.

Star Firestar M43, a little 9mm that was the size of a PPK (380) but fired a 9mm. Had standard features only found on custom guns: White dot sights, checkered front and back straps, beveled magazine well, flattened and checkered front of trigger guard, oversize magazine release button, ambidextrous safety, soft rubber grips. All steel except for the grips. Built like a rock.
It was voted Guns and Ammo handgun of the year at one point. But never caught on with enough popularity to keep Star from going out of business.

The Star PD .45 ACP, Bersa Thunder .380 ACP and Steyr M40 .40 S&W, in that order, in my opinion, ALL fly well below the public's radar and really give great bangs for the bucks!

I don't have one of the Bersas, but have friends who swear by them.

S&W K and N steel frame .357 revolvers. As semi-autos and uber small and light revolvers become more stylish, a lot of people seem to forget what great handguns these are.

I'd go with the Norinco Model 213, a 9mm clone of the Russian TT-33. I bought mine over 16 years ago, I paid $89 for it. It's the most accurate and reliable pistol I own, I've had over 50,000 rounds through it. No problems at all. I can't think of another more under rated pistol.

bersa thunder

Taurus has actually acquired a good rep lately so they aren't really under rated anymore.

Hi Point's are underrated to some extent too.

Ruger P-Series

I have an old P-85. Great gun. Never, I mean never jammed. I have shot thousands of thousands of rounds of junk surlpus ammo. Never got it too dirty to shoot. Solid as a rock. :D

Just about any Kel-Tec. People love to hate them, yet KT is always on the forefront of technology. Even well-established and prominent gun makers like Ruger find themselves copying KT designs.

Someone here was raving about Glocks... find me one that pocket-carries, is less than 1" thick, and weighs under 16oz loaded.

You just can't beat a KT for personal self defense. My personal favorites: P-3AT and PF-9.

Another vote for the Star PD. Way under rated. Actually any of the Star's. Were some good firearms. Too bad the company went T/U.

S&W Sigma is under rated.

Norrick

TRR8 seems underrated... or M&P R8..

I don't think it's under rated, but it's under appreciated. I watched a guy take my stock R8 and get a 1.5" group at 25 yards.

S&W 2214. Arguably the best "fishing vest" gun ever made. Accurate, reliable and very easy to conceal and carry. I have put 1000s of rounds through mine over the years and it is still ticking along. It came out right after S&W had a disaster with a little .22 they had made, the model 61 Escort (It was a very bad design.)Too many people equated the 2214 with the Escort. The 2214 was a new design and a darn good one at that. I love mine and still shoot it.
