Unless they were the laws of the OP's state, they don't have any bearing. You can accuse the OP and his friend of having committed a crime, but you certainly haven't established any case.
And, as noted, for many of us, coyotes are a problem; our states acknowledge them as a problem; they are fair game year round, as are other nuisance critters such as wild boar, because they do a lot of damage.
By the way, what makes you think you're the only one who is serving or has served in one of our overseas adventures? I'm betting an awful lot of TFL members could claim as much.
I also have to agree with PeetzaKilla.... you are at least as likely to cause problems for gun owners as is the OP.
