I took my renewal from a dude who was an officer in the CHL instructor association.
He was very down on Saustrop. Also after the incident, I was told some of the training classes for instructors mentioned Saustrop as a bad incident.
More information has come out that mitigates his actions - that he thought there was a significant threat of revenge. This is a debateable. So the rhetoric has toned down a bit.
However, most folks I know still think that he was unwise to act this way.
There are two components.
Should he follow - NO - on the surface.
Was the revenge fear sufficient to pursue.
Debateable.
Given that he did follow - was he OK in shooting the guy when he turned and seemed to threaten him with a weapon? CHL folks and tactics folks - say YES.
So it is a bit of a mixed bag.
