Turning guns into billboards turns me off

(Head shake and chuckle)
Above, a guy chastises Bersa because they DARE to promote their brand in large type on the gun itself -- then admits they're great for the price, but he won't buy one (I assume). And then follows, of course, far more egregious examples from myriad other producers.
Now, partly this rankles because I'm fond of Bersas, given their price-value ratio, and I own several (which I carry virtually daily) -- but, also, because I just don't give a s**t what a pistol looks like. I'm NOT a collector, I'm a carrier and shooter! If I conceal my weapon like I hope to, nobody's gonna see it but me anyway!
I laugh every time I read/hear about somebody pining away for a nickel finish or an embroidered slide surface. Why, for God's sake, unless your interest in it is as something other than a firearm?

I gotta admit i care how my guns look. For example, I know Glocks are fine weapons, but they don't appeal to me. Like PBP said, you can choose something that does appeal to you, AND that functions as well.

I also hate the dumb warnings, and I don't think its just the lawyers fault, otherwise that "read manual" would be on every brand.

I really liked the S&W thunder ranch .44 specials, but the laser logo really turned me off. There are so many good guns out there, why buy one that offends your eyes?

Lettering on guns are like tattoes on women. Some think it's hot, while others have no opinion one way or the other. And then again, others think both are ugly and uncalled for on a fine object of personal form. :D

This is how a gun should be engraved.;):D

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, besides, it's how the gun shoots not how it looks. I don't care for the square boxy look of many of todays polymers(Glock, etc.), but penty of people love them. I'm a fanatic about the 1911s produced by STI and while I don't care for the oversized name engraving on the side of my Eagle 6.0, it's not worth thinking about because it's an incredible gun to shoot.

So is a car. But I wouldn't want their advertising logo engraved all over the hood and doors of my new car, either...

A little lettering on the side can make anything look better.

So then this doesnt intrest you?

However i like those Dan Wessons 1911s.

Yeah, billboards are annoying on guns. I really hated how Colt did this with their ORM 1991s. The NRM 1991s are much more attractive now.

Thanks to the OP for the opportunity to rant.

I won't buy a gun that has the stupid warning messages. Sure it's a tool, but so's the guy who needs an engraved "Use this end to strike nail" on his hammer.

As mentioned above, aesthetics are, to me at least (and I'm sure not alone), an important part of the purchasing equation.

My dozen or so firearms are not going to make or break a manufacturer, but I won't contribute my donation to the support of their in-house legal team. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows guns are dangerous. How stupid are we thought to be, by the folks who insist on this sort of label? Personally I find it more than insulting.

Yeah, I don't like it either. I was strongly considering a Taurus 1911, until I saw that huge logo on it. A great price but made it very unpleasing to the eye. The important thing when attempting to "look" like a more expensive product is not give away that you aren't one. Why do people buy fake Oakley's? Because they LOOK like real Oakley's. If they said some other brand on them, not near as many people would buy them. Anyway, my .02 cents.

Your leaving lawyers out of your analysis ;) . I like Rugers and am glad to see my latest .45 and my kid's single-six with the warning rolled under....

I don't care for it either...kinda like the warnings on hair dryers, " Do not use in shower". You know they started putting it on there because some "Penile Cranium" tried it.
