tricks to curb your gun buying addiction

Hmm I take the $1200 one and a cheap entry/ one like S&W/Springfield. JMO

that is exactly my point. Get the 1200 one you really want, don't get 3 RIA and be left really wanting that 1200 dollar pistol instead.

Don't take the 2000 dollar statement out of context. That was simply my example.

But this works for me. Buy once, cry once, and never be left wanting.

Couldn't have been put better. You'll never be compelled to climb the ladder if it's only one step :D

I do that as well, heavily research until the gun becomes so familiar that it feels like I've already tired of it and sold it. Ha! :p

That works for me, because after getting that familiar with it and really thinking what you're TRULY looking for, going to look at it in the shop for the Nth time will tell you if it's right or not. For me, my New Agent was a perfect example. It was a present from my wife, I would visit it at the shop like Wayne and his Fender Strat from Wayne's World.

It will be mine, oh, it will be mine... :o

Which hobby is more expensive, collecting guitars or geetars?

I have one banger that cost me $1800 and I have a twanger that cost $6000.

Some guitars are amazingly expensive.

I do know about that...:(

Geetarman:D

Several years ago I realised that I owned an awful lot of guns. I've since been slowly selling off most of what I own and replacing them with fewer, better quality guns. I haven't pulled a dime out of pocket for a gun in several years, only buying with the funds that came from selling unused guns I bought years ago. In many cases I'm selling them for for much more than I paid and I've even managed to put some extra in the bank. One thing I've discovered is that the quality guns I owned are the ones selling for 2X-3X what I originally paid. The cheaper, budget guns won't bring 1/2 what I paid.

If I could live my life over I'd have chosen quality over quantity long ago. Save your money for quality and you won't buy so many, and they will be worth more in years to come. Cheaper in the long run really.

that is exactly my point. Get the 1200 one you really want, don't get 3 RIA and be left really wanting that 1200 dollar pistol instead.

Hmm get the 1200 and a cheap RIA $399.99, but put $300+ in parts and make it nice.;)

My trick is to upgrade or modify my current guns to fit me better.

Problem is you'll still spend...just not as much.

I spent about $200 to modify my Glock 22:

$40 for Ghost Tactical Disconnector + Tools to install it

$135 for Trijicon HD sights

$8 for grip tape

$20 for Wolff springs, since the factory ones look/feel really cheap.

My 'trick' is a one-step program:

1. Spend my firearms-related budget on ammunition, so I can't put together enough to buy a 3rd gun.

Uh, why would I want to? I have the money , the bills are paid, try to never buy just to buy something (although there have been a few impulse buys), and when tired or something always willing to sell it, with the money it sells for going towards its eventual replacement.

I got into reloading and ACTUALLY SHOOT the guns I already own A LOT!

This has helped tremendously

The exact opposite has happened to me. I got into reloading, saw the money I was saving then decided another pistol or 3 would be nice to have.

Actually I don't have such a case of the "I wants" anymore. The trick is to avoid any and all places that sell guns. We had to buy powder last week, I lost my son in the store 3 times. I was strong and didn't look at what they had for sale while looking for my son. Last time I was in there they had an Anaconda for sale I didn't check to see if it was gone:cool:

Buy a Land Rover (or any other British car) that way you will spend all your free time fixing it. I dont know whats worse buying good quality guns and upgrading/customizeing them then shooting all the time or buying a $400 part every week to try and fix something the limey's didnt make right from the start. Glad I got rid of the LR's.

Best way to add to your gun buying addiction----get a divorce :D

During 1st marriage I had 3 guns. In the subsequent years---countless :D

When I met the current wife, I had guns all over the place when she came to my house for the first time just to test her out. She passed and has 0 problem with my addiction.

I only have 2 hands (for guns) and she only has 2 feet (for shoes). Neither of us has a problem with filling the hands with more guns or covering the feet with more shoes. The agreement has worked so far ;)

Ain't that the truth. But it has also kept me from buying guns, due to performance by fellow forum members with their guns. Works both ways.

Determine what are the important things in life, and your long term goals. I suspect you have not thought that far ahead.
Do you want to have money problems when you are a senior and retired? If not you need to plan now for that time.

If you have children or plan to is it important to you to provide some or all of an education so that they can make a decent living?

I will not be highly critical toward those who like guns, and I have and do myself, but in the overall scheme of life they are not highly important except for a few for SD and hunting for recreation.

A major reason so many are in financial distress is that they do not have the self-discipline to plan, budget, and stop the childish thinking that causes them to think they cannot live without something.

Learn and practice self-discipline and realize that guns are not the most important things in your life. If they are then learn what is important and head in that direction.

Regards,
Jerry

The best trick I have is lay-a-way, I get to pay a little each month towards a gun I have been wanting and after a few months I get it, I end up getting about 3-4 guns a year this way and they are quality guns. I think everyone already knows that taking care of bills and family needs come first but dont forget to take care of yourself as well.
