Toy gun commercial from the 50's

I used to take toy guns similar to those to school, as did my class mates. Guess that would be a no no now. Would find myself on MSDNC news.

Pretty fancy guns, lol. The smoking barrel reminded me of the "cap" guns, with the rolls of caps, I can still smell then in my memory,

I had a cowboy 6-gun and a 1911 that took rolls of "caps"

I had the Johnny Reb cannon also. In addition, there was a TV show called "The Rebel" with Nick Adams as an ex Confederate soldier who "roamed the west" finding adventure, surprisingly often. So costumes were readily available for kids that emulated rebel soldiers.

So, for one Halloween, the Kindergarten I was attending had a Halloween party where we were all instructed to come to school dressed up in our Halloween costumes. So, Mr. Pilot here, at the encouragement of his parents, went in the beautiful gray uniform of a Soldier of the South. I was proud to wear the gray, even though I was a Yankee living in Pennsylvania. The uniform was complete with black holster which contained a very authentic looking, yet plastic, Colt 1851 pistol. The entire costume was complete with Confederate Flag, and that day I went to school with the uniform on, with toy gun, carrying a Reb Flag, and pulling my authentic Johnny Reb cannon into school.

No police were called, I was not arrested, nor suspended for having a "gun", AND a working artillery piece. I was not considered racist for wearing a southern uniform or carrying a Confederate flag. It was just part of our history. About a month later President Kennedy was shot, and the world began to change. :(

Wow, what a difference a few decades makes. No one thought anything bad of those commercials. We didn't all grow up to be psychopathic serial killers either. I was the first kid in my neigborhood to get a Johnny Seven OMA for Christmas...I was a god..lol.
Back then, you could even buy guns through the mail. No background checks.

Also, there were no mass shootings. No one would even think of bringing a gun to school. It is society that has become very ill. The family unit, the backbone of any society is all but destroyed, causing kids to grow up without both parents. No longer disiplined or taught values and respect for others. To give them a sense of family and belonging, they join gangs now. Gangs are the new family unit. The total decay of Human decency is upon us. What the hell can we do to stop an unstopable train wreck?

Pilot, I had that M-16!!!! I loved it! I remember that it was very difficult for me to pull the charging handle back on it (for lack of a better term). Sadly, my Papa broke it, swatting our sheepdog on the rump with it. I was devastated! If I could only get my hands on one now.

I feel bad for my boys. Sure, I am prepping them for their first day out shooting. I am just sad that they don't have the neighborhood kids to play these types of games with. My brothers and all the neighborhood kids would play "War" all day long. We played up unto the point where the streetlights came on. That was the signal that it was time to go home. Hmmm, maybe something needs to be re-started here... Could you just imagine if kids today could even see these old commercials on TV now? It would start a new (old) movement! If only the governor of NY spent his money for "good" purposes... Any millionaires out there that want to spend LOTS of money with no potential return?

Thanks guys. Yeah, you know you are getting older, when you personally witness drastic changes in society, many not for the better.

I too, remember the tv cowboys shows and playing with TOY GUNS and
every chance I've got over the last 12 years I have gotten my grandson
a TOY GUN, especially if it looked like any that I had. He has mastered the BB and pellet rifle and pistol..... that were my when I was his age. I taken him to the range to shoot 22 revolver and rifle as often as I can.
Last week I got this game "Dangerous Hunts" it works with my Wii.
The only game I have because it has a pistol grip and stock instead of
a hand control. They drive this old man crazy.
I played a while, to the point where I thought I could hold my own (93,000 score) and then brought my grandson over to play this new game.....HA!
He let me know that he had played it at his friends house and that he, my
grandson was NATURAL with the game. We played, his end score was 300,000.
I have and still do what I can to plant the seed.......SECOND AMEMENDMENT!
The other day I took him to Wal-Mart and said I got $20.00 you can
spend. He took off for the sports section handled the BB GUNS and looked at
all the real rifles and then went for the Nerf guns. He stood looking at them
for a long time and I said " what is wrong?" his reply was "I can't decide bet
ween the two Nerf pistols." together they come to more than $20.00 dollars.
I told him that when I had that kind of problem with guns I would purchase
both, if I could afford them and today he could afford them both!
I reached for more money, serves me right for being so cheap.

Hehehehe, you're a cool grampa. 'Sides, Nerf guns are a blast, and now you can both play.

I remember having cap guns in the 90's, a few we're the brown .38 snubby look alikes with the grey cylinder that took the plastic rings of caps. The rest were the translucent orange type that used the roll of paper caps. Haven't seen either in stores for quite some time, sad.

Great commercials and memories. So many things have changed! I remember being able to ride the bus with our shotguns, or walk to school with them, and we had to stow them in the principals office, but we could go grab them as soon as school was over and we would stop and hunt rabbits or squirrels or whatever on some neighbors properties on the way home from school.

No one thought anything about it! Every once in awhile someone would see us walking down the road, shotguns over our shoulder, slow down and ask us, did ya boys get anything? That was it! No cops, no swat teams, nothing.

My kids should be able to grow up in that USA....

Well, at least some can still laugh and stand to be politically incorrect. I saw this for sale online today. I'd buy it if I had any ability at all in playing the guitar.

But my Rifleman rifle was still cooler.
