So all I have left are the following: P226, P229 (my ccw), and Glock 41.

I don't feel like carrying a $1,000 gun. The SIG is an Elite Dark. I also live in Miami, FL. Rust is imminent impending doom.

The 41 I have carried but OWB for work. Now I'm at a job where I need to conceal carry. So the P229 is filling that. I have no issue carrying full sized handguns. So...

Smith and Wesson M&P 9 C.O.R.E. for my Glock 41?

Yay or Nay?

So, trade one gun you're not going to carry for another gun you're not going to carry? Since you said the P229 is filling that. But at the same time you don't want to carry the P229 because it cost $1000 and rust is impending. I'm pretty confused.

Why not carry the long glock? Weight? 27oz 36oz loaded.

CORE 4.25" 24oz or 5" 26oz ???

While I'm most always a proponent of ditching Glock, the 41/34/35 are one's I like. Tough decision...

If you're talking about the 4.25 Pro for carry I say go for it. I love shooting my friends 5" Pros they're top notch IMHO.

I will say nay.
You kept those 3 for a reason out of all the ones you had. Think about those reasons again and you may not want to do the trade.

You already have the 9mm covered in your collection. If you are getting rid of a .45 then I would replace it with a .45. I suggest you look at the M&P .45 Mid size. Awesome gun and the same size as your P229 but it weighs less.

I wouldn't.

I don't like the CORE because it uses non-standard M&P sights. To my knowledge, there are no night sights available for them - and certainly no Trij HD. They use super high sights for co-witnessing on a red-dot. If you're actually going to mount a red dot to the gun... maybe.

I'd personally tell you to go with a regular M&P and stick an Apex kit in it with the HD's.

Does this mean you're moving out of 45 all together?!

I suggest you look at the M&P .45 Mid size. Awesome gun

Yup. I agree with that.

Get the regular M&P with an APEX kit. The CORE is optics ready and probably not suitable for concealed carry without a custom holster.

I do have a Burris to finally put to good use and I do choose to conceal carry it either way. With or without the optic. Plus it's always a good option to already have the cut out for an optic on there.
It already has an apex kit on it and an aluminium trigger.

I'm heavily considering it...

Help....lol

In that case, might as well go for it. It sounds like you're liking it. You didn't say if it's the 4.25" or 5" model. I like a 4.25 best, but I wonder if it would look weird with the red dot on it.

Either way... I suppose it's worth it if you wanna make the trade. You need to get an HK45 anyways. ;)

Lol yeah. Well turns out the guy with the core flaked. Being a little too much of a mission. So I may work out a deal with a buddy of mine for just a standard one. And best part? I get to keep my 41.

:) I'll keep you guys posted.

I guess what I don't understand is why you would have traded 1 long slide for another.....

Personally you need one of the following:

Glock 19
Hk 45 c
Hk p2000
Smith 642
Sw shield
Ruger sr9c
And there are more.

That list is in no particular order. I carry a p2000 everyday and throw a smith 642 in my pocket for quick runs. Since you are used to carrying a DA/SA I would stick with that.

I can see your point of not wanting to carry a 1000.00 gun in case you have to use it and it will be taken and held by the police. It could disappear and your out a 1000.00 gun. Is that what you meant ?

As far as trading one of your guns for another gun, personally I wouldn't do it. I do not like selling or trading any of my guns, I have always regretted it down the road. If I want or need a new gun I save up and buy it.

Well if you want to hang on to a .45 caliber why not either a Glock 21 or the M&P 45 (with the Apex trigger). Or if you want to stay in 9mm then Glock 17 or M&P full size 9mm (again Apex trigger) or even the HK VP 9 (and why not just go back to the Glock 19?)

I would suggest NOT getting an M&P. I bought an M&P40 that was made in 2012 and in all seriousness the trigger was unacceptable. I love everything about the gun except the trigger was a joke. I put about 500rds through the gun and I just could not get over it. I sold it and replaced it with a 1911. I got tired of crappy striker fired triggers and if it's trigger was better I would have kept the gun for life. The ergos were outstanding and the thing felt extremely solid and heavy duty for a polymer gun but smith has extremely low quality control on their M&P triggers

LOL... you dun messed up, son.

$90 and 15 min on an M&P gives you about the best striker fired trigger of any gun on the market. Get yourself an Apex Tactical DCAEK and AEK polymer trigger. :D

Keep the 1000 buck gun in the safe with desiccant packs and?

or move to Alaska where there are no rust issues (short of being on the coasts)

I voted to sell the glock though as I am not a glock fan. Not a clue on the MP (hope that helps)

I am not sure he did in fact mess up son. Frankly he's right. Can an M&P be made dramatically better with an APEX kit? Absolutely, but it is an added cost (typically more than $90 for both the DCAEK and the AEK trigger) and on your first go it's often more than 15 min. And that's if you don't pay for a smith to do it too, which would add to the cost (I get it's not overly hard to do, but let's face it not everyone will do it themselves and I've dropped the sear spring or had a stubborn sear housing enough times to add some gray to my hair). You've also now modified the pistol and there are a number of folks pretty strongly against carrying pistols with modified triggers. If we're just talking the stock trigger, I honestly think pretty much any other striker fired gun has a better stock trigger than an M&P.

I like M&Ps too, one sits next to me at night and one is on my hip when I'm out, but water your Kool-Aid down a bit.
