Thoughts (perhaps value) on Unfired Ruger Security Six?

Marlarkey, anyone can "ASK' for anything, doesn't mean it'll bring that price.
We regularly sell average examples for $300-$350.
$450 would be very minty and $600-$900 is down right laughable.
That one is in really good shape and if I came across that at a show... without tax... without a form... at THAT price, THAT is coming home with me.

However, the revolver mentioned in this thread at over $600 was a real sale and you make it sound like it never happened... and thus, "could never happen." And if that's not enough of a joke, you make it sound like it's not even possible in the future.

The crystal ball you've got, did it also tell you that King Cobra revolvers would jump from $700-ish to $1,100-$1,200 in two years or less? Or does that crystal ball only point out the "bad" investments?!

This one here, real also:

I've got a bridge I'm looking to sell, you interested?
I'm not particularly interested in bridges, but the evidence suggests what you are attempting to sell in this discussion is CRAP and not only am I not interested, I'm guessing most others aren't either. But feel free to continue to sling it. ;)

Hey, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with paying $900 for a Ruger Security Six, it's your money.
I'm just saying you don't have to to get a nice one
Next one we get for sale I'll post it here with you in mind. But paperwork will be required.

That has more to do with the decreasing value of the dollar than the iincreasing worth of those guns

:p:p:p
That's hilarious. I was going to wait and see how it finished also, but that's beyond where I thought it might go. ;)

$ 660.65 was the final price on that linked auction.
The winner also owes $25 for shipping.
If he's like most of us... he'll owe his local FFL between $20 and $50 to receive it. It's safe to say that $700 is coming out of his wallet for that revolver.

It's also worth noting that SIXTEEN unique people made bids on that revolver, racking up 37 total bids.

In comparison to the OP's revolver, this one is definitely seen use & ammo, the seller even claims that "it does appear to need a good cleaning", whereas the OP's revolver may not even have a turn line on the cylinder.

Hope the bridge selling business is profitable these days. ;)

That is sort of funny - but - sad at the same time.

It seems to indicate the Ruger "Six" series has been "discovered".

I'd thought that was a couple of years away @ this point.

I have to concede the point, they are demanding a higher premium these days.
Looks like we'll need to rethink our asking prices next time we have one.
Thanks everyone for the education.

Thoughts (perhaps value) on Unfired Ruger Security Six?

Excellent well-built revolver. Not made like that anymore.

Value? Around $500. I discovered these in 2011, and bought several for between $350-400.

Inherited - priceless.

Well, the county finally decided they couldn't delay any further:rolleyes:

Got some pics. Evidently it's not the 4" model.:o

Well... if she were unfired, she ain't anymore.:D

My uncle brought it out at a little shooting party we had yesterday and we revved her up. On close inspection, even thought the gun is in near perfect condition, there is/was a definite "crud" ring in the cylinders from previous use. It clearly has not been fired much and for all I know it was from before he ever bought it but it had almost certainly be fired. The family swears he never fired it, but who knows? In any event, it's been fired now.

The rear sight was cranked all the way down. Boy, do they shoot low like that. ;) We didn't exactly sight it in anyway, too many other guns to play with and too little .357 ammo. The old girl let's you know when she speaks though.:D

You guys probably never noticed, but revolvers are sort of fun.

I see what you did there. ;)

As to a "crud ring in cylinders from previous use", are you saying a carbon ring on the cylinder's face? Or are you talking schmutz inside each cylinder that you can "feel" when thumbing cartridges in to the cylinder?

If it's schmutz inside the chambers, one easy trick is to take a piece of empty .357 brass, re-size it, then GENEROUSLY flare the case mouth... then tap tap tap that piece all the way in to each of the chambers. The (comparatively) soft brass cartridge case will not hard the cylinder steel, but it's a perfectly made crud ripper-outer. You may have to tap-tap-tap that case out from the muzzle end of each chamber with a pencil or empty, slender bottle-neck rifle case.

Great crud cutter.

Yeah, inside the cylinders. Seems to be just in front of the case mouth. I originally thought it might be from firing .38s but it's too far forward, definitely from .357s.

I am not a collector, so it being unfired or limited rounds fired has no value to me. If I had it that would not be true for very long. Then it would be the same as every other used gun.
If it were me, I would sell it to someone who values it more than I would, (like a collector). I might then use the money to buy a Ruger GP100 Match Champion.

Danny, You are right on..this is (not was) a work pistol and is only good for enjoyable use in the field. Fire it often and as many rounds as you can afford the pistol will take it, you will have enjoyment and the Ruger, which is not collectable anyway, will take it all in stride plus with a little cleaning look liike original. If the police have it I doubt it will be returned without the mandatory poor handling scratches and dents that they enjoy installing.

^very nice Peetza:D, now that you know that it's not unfired it would make for a great shooter, the Sec-Six is IMHO all of the benefits of a Smith K-frame without any of the drawbacks.

I just picked up my third Security-Six at a LGS for $275.00, 6" blued shooter. I also have a 4" circa 76' and a 2 5/8 circa 80 unfired that I will soon be carrying! Strong revolvers and fun to shoot! You can't go wrong with one.
