Those "Other" Brands

Many people consider anything not glock to be "those other brands" and nothing other than range toys or wasted money.

You can have problems with the "real" brands. I bought a spare slide for my Colt Mark IV-small letters, Colt slide on Colt Frame. I had to use grinding compound to get it to fit.

I bought a Bersa .380ACP for my wife because she was lusting for my SIG p232 .380ACP. I'm not sure she realizes I switched with her. It's not a bad gun; seems accurate and works like it should. I've carried it a couple of times. But my regular carry gun is a Shield .45ACP.

The Sphinx is another story. It has two faults. Trigger pull is a little heavy. It is expensive. However, it's a very high quality Swiss made CZ "clone". Better quality than any CZ I've ever seen. I had the S(can't recall the other two initials) Compact ALPHA model. The company can't seem to decide what they're going to do, which seems to affect sales and people's interest in the pistols.

I usually listen to peoples' opinions about a pistol. If enough folks say a pistol is good, or interesting, I'll look into it.

I only buy firearms that retain resale value.

That even rules out Ruger, even though I have several 10/22's and some MKII's.

Many brands are only worth as much as the day you buy them. From that point on, they depreciate rapidly.

The reputation for reliability only matters before the purchase. Once you've got your gun home, you need to wring it out and make sure your particular gun is reliable. You can get a lemon from one of the big name brands, and you could put thousands of trouble free rounds through something regarded as "lower tier". Of course, a thorough inspection before you lay down your cash is always advised.

In 1880, our firearms story had begun in a small shotgun atelier which was destined to become one of the World’s biggest manufacturing plants of firearms.
Having ruled by the fifth-generation today, Sarsılmaz is a well-established manufacturer of small arms with an enviable reputation worldwide.
Our brand new machinery park, equipped by the latest examples of CNC equipment, including eleven-axis mills and robotic equipment, proved to be a showcase of modern manufacturing. Continuous investment in R&D, technological equipment and growing product lines, resulted in the company’s ability to produce top of the line pistols and shotguns for customers in 78 countries.
Sarsılmaz is the only privately owned company in Turkey that has the capability of producing guns for law enforcement, military and civil use. Considering that Turkey has the second largest army in NATO, we take pride of being the sole official pistol supplier of the Turkish National Police and the Turkish Armed Forces.

Triplebike, thanks for that link. I'm now interested in the SAR 223 they're working on and caught a glimpse of revolver cylinders in the production photos. I have a K2P and would definitely consider another SAR firearm.

Everyone has missed the best "other" brand, Steyr. Without a doubt as good or better than any including that other Austrian company Glock.

LOL, Tell that to my good friend that has two Steyr SSP pistols. One he hasn't even shot because he fears it will suffer the same fate as the other. On the second magazine he shot, bits, or more properly chunks of plastic started flying off of it!

My AMT Hardballer has been 100% reliable. Biggest caution with those "other" brands is finding replacement parts.
