Thinking about my next purchase. Glock vs S&W

Glock.

They work. They refused to sign the agreements. They hold their value.

Re Smith reliability.....nearly one failure per thousand rounds sounds pretty bad to me.

Sam....ex smith dealer who doesn't own a Glock.

I use a 4003TSW for carry. I haven't owned a better gun. I also carry a G27,,,,very good gun to. My wife use it for carry more than I do though.

Ten years BEFORE the S&W sellout I had quit purchasing them because of overall poor quality, especially in pistols. Even the revolvers of 20 or more years ago are far better in Smith.

Since Smith has usually very poor resale value for reasons of bad reputation regarding quality and politics -- perhaps you might rent one at a range or borrow one and try a few boxes through it before purchasing.

The Glock of course is by far the better pistol; more accurate, more reliable, more dependable, more resaleable -- at the top of the class in all areas.

I have three S&W autos, 5906, 6906 and a 3913. They are all at least ten years old. I have not had any problems with them yet. They are accurate and fire every time I pull the trigger.

4013!

Legionnaire:

You ought to see the 4013 I picked up a couple of months ago.

The Colorado State Patrol model.

Two tone with dark slide (Don't know if it's blued or black stainless) on the usual silver/grey matte frame with the Colorado State Patrol emblem etched on the right side of the slide, Novak style tritium night sights, and the safety/decocker spring loaded to return to the "fire" position.

I don't know if what I have is a "production overrun" on a LEO agency contract or a limited edition commemorative, it has never seen duty use (there is no holster wear or "marks" on the slide) and internal wear on the slide indicates extremely little firing has been done.

It has the usual S&W VKN prefixed serial number on frame, slide, and barrel and a second CSP prefixed number on the frame only.

I saw it first brand new in a shop 2.5 years ago and I picked it up after someone traded it in in another shop. I recognized the low CSP number easily and the owner of the shop who sold it brand new researched his records and confirmed it was the same gun.

I've owned and carried a number of Glocks in .40, .45, and currently own a Glock 17 and 26 (Carry the 26 a lot and teach and compete occasionally with the 17) I consider Glocks probably the best overall for most folks to carry and depend on.

That said I've had S&W 4006, 915, 3913, 4516, and a previous 4013 and liked them all and had good luck with them all. I feel they are well engineered and quite reliable pistols and I've found S&W warantee service to be outstanding on the few occasions I've had to use them.

I wish the new owners would have the "guts" to publicly repudiate the agreement they never made and have no intention of honoring. But the "silent" position they have may be what their attourney's advise as "safest".

The "agreement" is totally dead. The federal agencies that were involved have admitted they cannot live up to their end, DOJ has been quoted as observing the federal end of it is probably not legal anyway. The supposed "immunity" from lawsuits never materialized so the new owners in Arizona have no obligation to follow what the former Brit owners made the company agree to.

Local dealers tell me the S&W sales reps have been telling them since Safe-T-Hammer bought S&W that the new owners have no intent whatsoever of honoring any provisions of that agreement whatsoever with the possible exception of those safety innovations that are what Safe-T-Hammer was all about before the purchase anyway.

It's time to leave "the agreement" and move on.

I buy and shoot Colt 1911's, 1911 "clones", Glocks, and whatever S&W's that catch my fancy.

S&W auto Suck???????????

I don't know but, but I have never had a ounce of trouble from my 3rd gen smith 910. over 4000rds of ammunition, everthiing commercially avaible (corbon, fed, rem, win, imi, s&b,cci, speer,
Hornady,wolf.....fmj, hollows, semi and full wadcutters, flying ash trays etc.) Even would feed empties on live fire exercises. NEVER ONE FTF. Four of my buddies have smith 3rd gen auto, 457,3913, 410, and another 910. I asked them all in response to this post if theyve ever experience a ftf, non have. So I'm not real sure why everbody is having these bad experiences. I can only recomend that you get what your comfortable with and dont let politics influence your decision. That being said I'm not going to bad mouth glock, just to suggest that contrary to popular opinion glock is not the only choice for 100% reliability.:barf: :barf: :barf:

Get the G30.....You say you are going to be issued the G22 and G27 in 40 , so why get another? Try the G30, I sold my S&W 4006 after I saw how well Glocks can shoot.

I had my 4006 for more than 8 years and bought the G27. When I could shoot the baby Glock out of the box better than my 4006 after 8 years, I sold it and bought the G30.

That was the only gun I have ever sold and not regretted doing so.

I liked the gun, how it felt and reliability was a little iffy, but the Glock will shoot circles around it.....and not jam!:)

Only way I would take a S & W is if someone gave it to me, then I would sell it and put the money toward the purchase of another Glock!

In regards to price...

I purchased my G27 three years ago for $459.95. I just took a look at several other models in my regular gun shop's case. They were all priced the same--$489.95
I can hear some of them calling my name from here. "Pssst....Will, take me home. Your wife will NEVER know. We all look alike".

HELP ME...I'm falling again for it again. :)

Kentucky Rifle
P.S. It seems that I've developed a "sudden urge" for a G36 and a G19. I've got the "wants", and it's an incurable disease when it comes to fine firearms. (But I love them, I really do!)

buy the glock

after the whole agreement deal with the gov you just can't
buy a smith&wesson!!!!!!
I've been lusting after a certain revolver for years but i just can't
buy it!

Go with glock, only time i'd get a smith is in their knives and handcuffs, thats if you can't afford Benchmade (knives) and Hyatt / peerless (handcuff)

GLOCK!!

I was in a gunshop just outside of Albany, NY. An older woman was asking if they had any Glocks because she could not get them where she lived, which just happened to be Springfield, MA! Now here is someone who lives close to the S&W manufacturing plant and won't buy a S&W, nuff said.

Ludwig! "When I'm not using a holster I prefer my S&W 3913 because of the safety. With a holster, hi-cap Glock." How on earth is that S&W any more safe then a Glock. IMNSHO, Glocks are some of the safest guns ever made!!!

Glock

I have a friend who is Durham, NC PD. Their issue weapon is a Smith and they would rather use it inverted to drive nails as it is useless to use normally to drive tacks...

Seriously though, I would pick the Glock over the Smith. I've fired both and although neither made my collection, the Glock was the better of the two.

I have owned two Glocks (23,22). They are durable and rust resistant. I think they are a great weapon but I don't like the feel and I do not like carrying one with the chamber loaded with the "safe - action" trigger. Certainly, the vast majority will say it's no problem but it comes down to what you prefer and I do not prefer nor do I feel comfy carrying a Glock inside the waistband with a round chambered---------------------I'm sorry.

I do like the smaller Smiths 4013's and 3913/3953's as well as the smaller .45 ACP model. I will not be using them for competition shooting so I don't need to worry about shooting it 100,000 times. The novak lowmounts are excellent and snag-free and the pistol is much flatter compared to the G30. Additionally, though I do think 9mm Glocks are the finest 9mm in the world, all things considered, I am afraid of the KB issue with any thing larger than the 9mm. Yes many shoot .40's and .45's with no problems but the proof is in the pudding and by now it's not just a coincidence that .40 and .45 Glocks go Kaboom!

Is the Glock more durable? You bet. Does the Smith feel better, point better and carry better? IMHO, yes.
