Thinking about my next purchase. Glock vs S&W

It is getting near that time again for me to make another gun purchase. I am considering the Glock G30 (subcompact 45 ACP) or the S&W 4053TSW (compact 40S&W Tactical model). Anyone have any input on these guns. As usual, this gun may be carried some, but I will be getting issued a G22 and a G27 soon so my new gun will probally be more of a play toy than anything else.....

*Note* I am not interested in discussing politics so don't anyone waste their time. :)

Don't buy S&W, they sold us out. The Glock 30 is not a subcompact. Maybe a compact but definitley not a sub.

Ignoring the entire S&W sellout matter, the G30 is simply a better pistol IMO. It isn't even close as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't heard any good words about S+W autos on the forums. My theory is that they are the anti-matter (anti-christ) reflection of their revolvers which I have found to be the best around.

Given your scenario I would choose the Glock. I have seen a few threads lately condemning SW auto quality especially the TSW custom stuff. It might be worth it if you can get one of the older TSW's that were distributed through Lew Horton. Those I heard generally good things about. I would put standard SW autos on the lower end of the average quality pistol scale but thats JMO.

good luck and no politics in this advice

I'd buy a Buick or Chrysler before I bought an S&W semi-auto, and it will be a cold day in hell before I buy another Chrysler product.

But they're all in the same league. Overpriced for what you get.

Then, of course, there's the whole issue of the agreement with the government.

As a former LEO I'll give my 2cts. I love the Glock! I have had 3 Performance Center autos and 4 standard autos. Sold all the S&W's. They felt like bricks(grip angle wrong for me).I had to send all 3 PC guns for work right from the box. My 4516 would not group under 6"(tried over 10 loads). The Shorty Forty went full auto after 12rounds. I now carry Glock 36 concealed.
In case I've been vaque-BUY THE GLOCK!

Glock. I have the G30. You will very very happy with it.

What sort of work you in anyway where they are going to issue you a G22 and a G27? Federal?

I think you should get the S&W 4053TSW. I had a 4516-1 for a few years until I traded it for a SIG Sauer. Since it is going to be a range queen which one is moot, they're both fun.:p

Doesn't the S&W have a magazine safety in it? That might be a consideration. no mag = no kaboom. ...and I've heard of some S&W's that drop the mag when firing!!

Glock is simple.

I have neither and of the two I've only shot a Glock.

It's the Sigma line that drops magazines while firing, not the Tactical line. Besides, a magazine disconnect on a range queen isn't a big deal.

I would vote for the G30. It is a great and accurate weapon, I have one !.

I had a S&W 4006 that I really liked. fit my hand well, and shot pretty good too, that is until I got a G27.

There is something wrong when a 3.5 in barreled 19 oz (empty) G27 Glock can shoot groups less than half the size of a S&W 4" barreled gun that weighs 38 oz's empty.

That's when I sold my S&W and bought the G30. Never looked back either.
