Thinking about getting a pocket carry .357 snub

TheNocturnus, the trigger on these are great. After you get in some range time, I'll be curious to know if you end up carrying it with full-house magnums. The difference in weight between this and the SP101 was the difference between magnums and specials for me.

Wrong.

LCR... The shrouded hammer is amazing.
Just under a pound loaded.
Once you fire 357 out of it, you may want to stick with 38 +p,
However.

Couldn't agree more with "stormyone". Even out of a 2" barrel, 38+P is well behind a good 357 load.

Ruger says the .357 LCR weighs 17.1 oz.

That's over a pound, empty.

Add 3 oz for five rounds and you're at 20 oz.

TheNocturnus,

Now question....

Do you intend on using .357 magnums, real magnums, in your pocket gun?

If so the SP-101 is heavy enough for you to shoot it well and still carry.

There are three top .357 5 shot snubs.

S&W J frame 640-1, 60-1, etc.. types
Ruger SP-101
Ruger LCR

Of the three I have the 640-1 and SP-101.

The one on the right is my 640-1 and it is excellent.

The SP-101 on the right is my .357 DAO Ruger SP101.

It's a bit heavier and chunkier than the 640-1 but still a might good gun.

Either one will take magnums and still allow good shooting.

I've tried the 357 in the light weight snub. After purchasing a S&W 340 M&P which was great in the pocket- I took it to the range a few times. It was tolerable with 38 but with full power 357 it was hard to get through a cylinder. Downright painful IMO. Traded it for a Ruger SP101 and haven't looked back. I'll stick to 38 Special in the light weight snub. In 357 the Ruger SP is a good compromise between size and shootability.

Ruger LCR, or spend a little more and get a Smith and Wesson. Either way you won't be disappointed. I love my S&W.
