There can be only one! What S&W .357 Revolver would you choose?

13....fixed sight version of the 19.
Not exactly. The Model 13 is more of a "Magnum capable" version of the Model 10. It does have fixed sights, but it's missing the ejector shroud that the Models 19, 65 and 66 have.

The Model 13 ends up being somewhat of a no-frills or spartan version of the Model 19. And if you spot one sitting on a dealer's table at a gun show... at first glance, you'll simply think it's just another Model 10 because the ejector rod is not shrouded like all of the other Smith & Wesson magnum revolvers.

If you felt the Ruger GP100 was a bit big...and you would like to have a S&W then I would suggest then renewed S&W Model 66 ..its a K frame (Medium)

Everyone has their opinion and when it comes to Smiths then there are very few bad choices when it comes to .357mag revolvers. I had $800 to spend when I was looking for my S&W .357mag and looked at many models and decided the Model 686 was for me. I chose a 686+ because I liked the idea of the 7 shots. I figured if 6 shots are great then 7 just has to be excellent.
I bought a 4" bbl 686+ a few years ago and have been so happy with it that I decided to get one with a 6" barrel back in February.

If I'm limited to one, and ONLY one, then it would have to be a 4" 686-4 Plus. 4" is realistic (though not entirely practical) for carry. A good length for the average person's recreational shooting. The plus gives you a 7 round cylinder which makes it a little bit better for defensive purposes. Finally, anything -4 or greater will feature a frame drilled and tapped for a scope mount.

Only being able to have one as& revolver is a pretty comical scenario around my house though ;)

I have smaller hands,,,

I have smaller hands,,,
Not carnival worker small,,,
But small enough that Model 27/28 doesn't fit me.

I gave it a lot of thought and bought myself a S&W 686.

With K-frame target grips it's still a bit fat,,,
But with standard K-frame grips,,,
It fits me perfectly.

I didn't get a Model 19 because I already have a Model 15,,,
And I like to be able to run the hot 125 grain rounds,,,
I didn't want to be limited to the 158 grain rounds,,,
Sometimes the 125 and 110 are all I could find.

I always loved the looks of the S&W target grips, but they just sucked for me when it came to fitting my hands and shooting the guns.

I always did much better with the service/magna style grips with a T grip.

These days, I have Houge mono grips (rubber) on all but my 642's, which still have the magna/T grip combo. The Houges arent the greatest looking, but they are great for shooting, and they feel very much the same across the different frame sizes.

I own 4 .357 magnums, sp101 in a 3 inch and 4.25 inch, a 686 in a 3 inch, and a 640. The 686 is one of the best all round revolvers, and really, one of the best all round handguns. Very versatile and accurate. The others make better carry guns, although on occasion I do carry the 686. It ain't light, but the weight makes the magnum cartridge much more bearable to shoot. The gp100 is good, but it hate the trigger on rugers. Plus smith offers that 7th round.

If there could be only one it would be my model 28. It's a 1957 model that I grew up with and have been shooting for more years than I care to remember and it's still the best S&W shooter I have. Utilitarian in a very superb way.

Out of the 24 guns I own, it's the only one I need.

I have another new 28-2 waiting on the sidelines for something to go wrong with it's older brother, but I doubt I'll ever have to put it in service.

Even my model 57 will take a back seat to this one and that's saying something.

Not exactly. The Model 13 is more of a "Magnum capable" version of the Model 10. It does have fixed sights, but it's missing the ejector shroud that the Models 19, 65 and 66 have.

It also has the "heavy" barrel like that on the Model 65 and some Model 10 variants (but not the Model 19). And I don't think that the Model 65 routinely came with the full-length ejector shroud (the Model 65 "LadySmith" excepted).

I'm left with only one S&W .357 nowadays; a 340PD:

That's 13.6 oz. loaded.

I actually carry it with .38SPL. It makes a great coat-pocket carry in the wintertime.

I've owned a couple of 19s and a 66. I guess I'd trade the 340PD for a 66 4" if I had the chance.

S&W 66. It's a 66-2 and I'm in the middle of buying a 66-3 so yes I love the K frames. I'll probably have to pull out the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson to show the wife the difference between a -2 and a -3 and that "I don't already have one of these".;) Seriously though, she will end up with one of them I'm sure.:)
