There have been many multi choice polls on Taurus without a definitive and conclusive debate and/or result. Therefore, I submit before you the Taurus question:

Assuming cost and availability to be constant, and you could keep ONLY one handgun (a hypothetical to get a straight answer).

Question: Do you trust Taurus to be your only handgun? Why or why not?

I voted yes, only if it was one of the 2 I already have, and I had a ready available supply of parts.

But you can bet, if I had to get rid of all my guns but one, my only gun would be one of my Ruger 357's

kris.....you voted yes but answer suggests that you should have voted no since ruger not taurus would be your only handgun???

I voted no. I have a Rossi (made by Taurus) it's a .38 special Snub nose 5 shot revolver. Every now and then the cylinder tries to bind up after a shot has been fired. It doesnt happen often, and with a REALLY hard pull of the trigger, or helping it through by pulling back on the hammer, I can get it through. But the simple fact that it happens at all makes it unworthy to be my "Only Handgun" I use it as my practice snubby. I'm planning on getting a concealed carry permit one day soon, and I'll probably get a S&W snubby for carry, and wring out my Rossi with practice. Yes, I'll practice with my S&W too;)

Because once again, these polls have multiple outcomes. Would I keep a Taurus as my only handgun, sure If I HAD to. Would I choose to, no...the 2 I own are snub-nose, which are impractical for any other use other than self defense.

I really don't understand all the polling lately, this Taurus thread, like every other, is going to end in disaster. Not sure what answer your really looking for.

If I only needed one gun, I'd only have one gun. But I have safes full. SO to pick the Taurus before all others, wouldn't be prudent. If somebody put a gun to my head and said "hurry, pick just one gun now", and I grabbed a Taurus in haste, I wouldn't complain...I bought it.;)

My only experience shooting a Taurus was my brother's gun. It mostly worked. I've heard way too many customer support horror stories to want one even if there weren't all the accounts of folks having to send brand new guns back to the factory. I like many Brazilian things but Taurus is not one of them.

Besides I couldn't have just one gun anyway. That would be like being told you could only have one screwdriver or one wrench. Hmm, should I take a phillips or a flat head for my one screwdriver...

Question: Do you trust Taurus to be your only handgun? Why or why not?

incredibly poorly written question
you give no alternatives or ultimatums, and "trust" should read "choose"

if i had a choice between a taurus and rock, i'd pick the taurus... despite whatever "trust" issues i had

given a choice of "one handgun" of my picking, taurus would not be concidered

that's like saying:
"Assuming cost and availability to be constant, and you could keep ONLY one form of shelter

Question: Do you trust ragged tarp to be your only shelter? Why or why not?"

if you have no other options, then trust doesnt mean jack, didly, nor scat

No. Speaking from experience, my time spent with a Taurus product (NIB M85) was pretty bad. That was my first, and last Taurus.

As long as I had the chance to perform a pre-buy check (as I would when buying ANY gun, regardless of manufacturer). Actually my last buy was a Taurus ;). I only started browsing internet firearms forums in the past year, and honestly was shocked by all the Taurus bashing that is so popular. My own experience with Taurus products has been that they are well made, well priced, and reliable........can't say the same about several other manufacturers' products that seem to be drooled over by others. I've yet to personally encounter faulty guns from Taurus, so yes I'd trust one to be my only handgun.

Then again I also don't rely on the word of some random person on a forum to help make my buying decisions. This IS the internet after all, where (as the saying goes) the men are men, the women are men; and yes even the 16 year old virgins are men........old, dirty, hairy men.

Assuming cost and availability to be constant

Given your construct, HELL NO.
Nobody buys a Taurus because it has equal/better quality at the same price.

People buy Taurii, Kel-Tecs, etc., because they have reasonable quality for a lower price. Also known as value.

Not bashing, just stating a fact.

Which Taurus? My specific PT1911, that I possess now and which I have tested personally with some 800 rounds now?

I didn't vote, as the poll as given is rather pointless, as others have stated.

I have had a couple, the last one 357 magnum snubbie in stainless.
Fit and finish were excellent, in fact fit was a bit too close because the clearance from the cylinder to the forcing cone was too tight and would bind upon heating up.

Taurus fixed it, no more issues.

Then the gun was stolen, and I called Taurus for the serial number from their repair section, and was told they could not give it to me.
That kind of soured me on Taurus.

See, now this is one of those polls that can really tell a lot just by the poll results.

Looking at the thread of course adds some rationale, but the results are indicative of our faith in this marque.

I answered yes.....but my answer was based on the one Taurus I own. My PT945 has been great, and I shoot it a lot. But I must admit I think Taurus in general does have more quality problems than other major manufactures. So my answer of yes was if the Taurus is the one I own and have proved to be reliable so far. If I had to pick a pistol at random to load a shoot the first time for SD I probably would pick something like my XD.

I don't know how useful these kinds of polls are, but I sure would like to have a dollar for every "is Taurus good, 9mm VS .45ACP, Glock VS XXX, and 1911" thread.:)
