The Perfect Pistol - The G19.

G-19

I stake my life on it. I owned and carried a G-21 for 4 years in the early 90's, that Glock took 38,000 rounds and never had an issue. It did need a new trigger, but after 38,000 rounds I didn't see that as an issue. Had gotten away from Glocks for some years, carried a Sig 226, then 229, then H&K USP's in .45 (full size, then compact), then went to a Kimber Ultra Eclipse II until I injured my knee. That's when the need for a lighter pistol arose, so I picked up a Glock 19 and I'm completely back in love with them, and I trust the Glock (as all the other pistols mentioned above) with my life.

I don't have any experience with the Glocks other than my brother telling me the little trigger safety bugged the hell out of him. In my experience the Walther P99 is the best I've dealt with. Still need to get a Walther P88 to test the hypothesis though. BTW, the HK p7 was really fun to shoot but I only had one chance to do so.

The perfect .45:

#1. Sig P220S Sport
#2. Sig P220ST all stainless
#3. Hk USP45Expert
#4. Sig P220
#5. Hk USP45

The perfect 9MM:

#1. Hk P7
#2. Sig P228
#3. CZ75
#4. Sig P226
#5. Sig P229

bad_dad_brad, the Glock 19 is the most size efficient service 9mm pistol in existence. They are fine weapons and will get you through the night. Yes, I prefer BHPs but that doesn't imply that a Glock isn't a great sidearm. Regards, Richard

Anyone have this problem?

Shot a friends Glock 19 today, but for some reason it would absolutely not feed Federal Hydra-shoks. Has anyone else experienced this? After trying to rack the slide to chamber a round, the round would get stuck below the feed ramp. I tried to "slingshot" the slide and it didn't work. I tried to release the slide from a locked back position and it would not feed either. Only way I could use any of them was to physically insert the round into the chamber. However, I had some Federal EFMJ which fed just fine. So is this just a problem with hollowpoints in general or just the Federal Hydra-shoks? FWIW, everything fed fine through my Walther P99. :D

G19

I was convinced to place an order for 3rd generation G19 due in part to this thread. Im now very excited and can't wait for the day for it to arrive.

I Agree!

The G19 is the best Glock out there and best overall semi for me. Heinie plain black Slant Pros and 3.5 trigger with Ti striker on mine. I shoot left handed and after many many Glocks I only had the mag release problem with my G20. I had to file the sharp corners from the button.

RT13, somehow I get the impression that you're a SIG fan.

I used to have a P220, but I sold it because it really couldn't do anything a Colt Lightweight Commander couldn't either. Both are excellent guns, but I simply prefered the Commander.

Regarding the G19, I think it and the other Glocks would come a little closer to being "perfect" out of the box if they came with better sights. The first thing I did to each G19 I owned was ash-can the plastic sights and install steel ones.

Im a lefty shooting a G19 and have no problem with the mag release catching my fingers. Must be the way Im holding it. My G19 shoots great. Just got it back from Glock having upgrades and night sights put on. Its my primary carry weapon for now. Shoots great groups and quick follow up shots are on the money. Took the place of my .40 since I can control double taps easier.

The G-17 is the best pistol. Mine has an extended mag catch/slide stop with a 3.5 # trigger. I shoot it well but not as well as I would like. Problem is the grip is too wide. Before I send it to Robar for a grip reduction I'm trying everything to get proper grip. My biggest problem is not being able to grip my G-17 so the front sight forms a line thru the back sight down the big bone of my forearm. I've even gotten rid of the +2 extenders. Well If i send it off for a grip reduction I need a different carry pistol. My S&W M65 revolver wont cut it. I really like the Colt 91A1 but 45 ammo cost twice what 9mm does. My list for another 9mm is Walther P99QA, HK USP 9 compact, & CZ 7B SA. I have only held the Walther & HK. What I don't like is the mag catch, having to bend my trigger finger back to push down the mag catch. I like the controls on my G-17 better. I have a second gen G-17 with out the finger groves. I think I like the third gen with the thumb indent & finger groves better. I think the thumb indent might help geting the G centered in the middle of the "U" between my thumb & trigger finger. Even if i buy 1 or more of the other 9mm on my list. The G-17 might wind up being the right 1 for me. If I can only work out the grip problem. The 3.5 # trigger is sweet. The extended mag catch/slide stop work well also.

I've chimed in on this subject before.

THe Glock 19 fit my hand like a 2x4 and I never liked the trigger. I just like a DA/SA better. Once I moved onto the Beretta 96 Border Marshal for cold weather carry, and the Sig P239 for warm weather I found my 'match made in heaven.'

Just personal preference.

I Agree

It is the best pistol I have found so far along with my 1911's. I have had over 100 pistols, some more than once and I have found that the only one I keep for a long period of time is the G19. I have had it longer than any other, other than a Les Baer that was an anniversary present from my wife. I think Glocks and 1911's are the best pistols ever designed. Just my opinion.

It's my opinion Glocks are fine pistols, if I was to find any fault in them its the trigger. It has way to much over travel for my taste.

except for the grip width, trigger reach, trigger feel, caliber, and cost of high capacity magazines, yes, it is.

One of the great things about living in this country is all the choices we have. The Glock is perfect for someone somewhere. Every pistol is perfect to someone somewhere.

For me the Colt Commander with thin grips, beavertail and Ed Brown Bobtail mainspring is perfect. In any caliber.

The Glock grip angle is all wrong, trigger is squishy, grip is too fat, finger grooves spread my fingers out too much and it's plastic. And it's ugly. For me the Glock is all wrong. Are they good reliable pistols? From what other people say, yes. I've never owned one but just handling and shooting them told me I didn't want one.

You're right about the Glock 19 being just about the perfect pistol, this is why it's one of Glocks best sellers. The correct size, mag capacity, availiabity of spare high caps, plus a rust proof finish and night sights makes it impossible to beat. I own four Glocks and the 19 is the one that gets carried the most.

This thread just keeps going on and on. A tribute to the G19. But I would like to get some factory new 15 round magazines for it. Anyone know where I can get some for under 100 bucks?
