The "Perfect Pistol" - how would you design one?

I'll start this off. My perfect pistol would have the following specs:

1. Capacity = 17 rounds; semi-automatic 10mm .
2. Single Action/Double action
3. Single action trigger should feel like a well tuned 1911, very short pull and take-up.
4. Forged Titanium frame with hardned steel reinforcements in all stress areas to take the beating of full power 10mm ammo.
5. Slide machined out of a solid billet of stainless steel with some fine bead blasting for contrast in the right areas and some "interesting front and rear serations.
6. Relatively smaller grip. Grip pannels would be recessed flush into frame to give it an "inlaid look", rather than screwed onto the grip frame. I want the option to use tactical rubber recessed grips, or something more decorative like polished stag or ivory.
7. No grip safety or junk trigger safety - just a decocker/safety.
8. optional 9mm kit to turn the gun into a 20 round 9mm gun

50 cal., 100 rnd capacity, recoil of a rimfire, weighs 18oz, shoots everytime, costs $25. Wake me up when THEY make one.
Oh yeah..I forgot...telepathic safety.

full sized Semi-automatic
.357 sig
the simplicity of a glock
the beauty of a 1911
rotating barrel like the PX4
15 rounds
adjustable back strap to accomodate different hand sizes
allows for custom grips as well, or wrap around grips
SA/DA
light clean DA pull
indestructable finish
firing pin block, manual safety, hammer
no grip safety
picatinny rail
customizable trigger
sells for $500 retail

no external parts to snag
no safeties other than the one between your ears
utterly indestructible
so simple anyone can use it properly

Oh yeah - it's already here.....they call it a ...."rock"

Somebody already did...

Well now. :-)

I would like a polymer framed HK P7, chambered in .40 without the horrible bulky slide they put on the M10. And hey, how about a mag release that doesn't dump the magazine at the slightest provocation.

single stack .45/10mm that is striker fired without any manual saftey. something similar in concept to a full size glock 36. while they're at it see if you can stuff a .50 gi in there too. it would also have changeable backstraps, lasermax guiderod and nightsights. and the slide catch would be designed so my thumb would cause the slide to not lock back on an empty mag!

Perfect pistol? Don't know about that one. But each and every time I look in the holster I'm reminded of how close John Browning came with his Government Model of 1911 design.

A Browning High Power in 45ACP with a more easily manipulated safety safety, better sights. With a 22 conversion unit.

I knew somebody like Stargazer would post that :barf: - The one thing I can say is Glockie Talkies are as reliable as the pistols themselves :p

^It was tongue-in-cheek kind of statement predecessor.:D I figured somebody would do it since "perfect" was mentioned. I don't even own a handgun yet, nor have I even decided what I like.;)

I'm pretty sure that a 1911 with some way to customize the grip angle, size and texture would come pretty close to filling the bill. "Pretty" matters if it's not a carry piece.

A Glock with the same grip customizations would be pretty close to the perfect carry piece. Light and reliable is what matters most, I don't care if it's "pretty" when I carry it.

For me, it would be either 357sig or 10mm, or better yet both, with just barrel swaps.

Obviously, no gun will satisfy everyone. However, I would like to see a gun where all the controls, not matter what they were, were ambidextrous so that whether left handed or right handed, the same action was required to perform the same job.
