The Constitution Needs an Amendment

Want to fix things?

-flat tax rate: everybody who makes above $x pays y%

-term limits for every elected position

-any (Federal) law passed has a 10 year (max) sunset clause

-Senators appointed by State legislature

-Yearly ballot for all persons in political office. For each office, you get to vote:
a) penalty
b) rate
c) bonus

The above applies to their salary.

im going to have to go with bill to a point on this one, one term and its only 2 yrs?i think better would be a four year gig with a adjustable term limit, in other words your out for at least one term in between as your constituants can hang you or re-elect you, president wise, we are stuck, 4 years to me is the bare minimum for efficency, two terms is enough. the TRs of the world are too few and far between to change that law.but i also think the best thing would be a "failure to progress: clause , like we had in the USAF, you could only be a rep for so long without running for senator, a senator only so long before running for prez or gov,if you dont progress your out, prohibited from running again , that would get rid of the ted kennedys and carl levins of the world.

The only thing shortening the terms would do is make the candidates campaign continually

While I feel that this is probably a valid statement, as shown by the House of (barely) Representatives, why don't we change campaigning to a game of twenty questions?

Have each state send a rep for a panel who puts together a pamphlet of twenty pertinent questions that will be answered by each candidate. The pamphlet would be sent out to each registered voter and you would receive one when you registered to vote.

No campaigns, tv ads, fund raisers. No campaign season and a real reduction of "bought" candidates. At least the bribes would show up as bribes, not contributions.

Anyone with a real desire to run for office would be able to put their ideas in front of voters through this pamphlet, cuttting down on the influence of the national parties.

Just trying to think outside the box.

Select members of Congress for a single term from the rolls of registered voters. It would be hard for a random selection to be worse than what we have now.

Yeah, I'm sure we'd all like to think that...but seriously, look around sometime. The election process may not always give us the best, but it really does do an effective job of culling out the worst. Simply because somebody holds political opinions counter to yours does not make them the worst possible choice.

I still like the idea that campaign donations could only come from eligible voters and then only from those in your district. That would take care of campaigns in the House. For the Senate (as long as the 17th isn't repealed), only those who are eligible to vote in that State.

The only other modification would be the Presidential races. Again, campaign donations only from eligible voters.

Make such donations completely tax deductible (even on the 1040ez) and do away with Corporate and Lobbiest donations altogether. This is no more an unreasonable restriction than anything else that's been done with the 1st lately.

Yah, but eemajin wut it kood do for thu way ar la-yers wood hav to werk... :D

We can't understand half the laws as they're written now. Just seems fair to even up the odds a little so they can't either... LOL It would almost be worth it to see a bill proposed into law and have a group of lawyers all scratching their heads saying "Wow, I really have no idea what this is supposed to be..." :D

Sorry, couldn't resist. LOL
