I voted Glock VS World. I think that my second choice would be the one with 9mm. BTW I ran a poll a few weeks ago about 1911 VS Glock and 1911 won.

Me @ 62 years old, I bet most of the guys that voted "revolver versus auto" are in that age group, or close to it, give or take a few years. The semi-autos more or less took over most of the market a generation ago IMO. :)

Revolver vs. Auto is my choice because so many other debates can spring from it. For example, you've got capacity vs. caliber, DA vs. SA, metal vs. plastic, and diameter vs. velocity (usually .45 ACP vs. .357 Magnum).

1911 versus the world. All these newfangled designs trying to out-do the 1911 and none of them succeeding. Timeless is timeless.

To answer the question seriously...
Which is the topic that always degenerates and turns normal people in to savages on gun forums?

I've seen it a dozen times. All you need to do is suggest that you either should or should never carry your own home-built handloads in your defensive carry weapon.

Regular folks turn in to a-holes when this subject comes up.

Biggest rivalry? Has to be the pro vs. anti 2nd Amendment argument as epitomized by most of us on forums like this vs. the Brady types and others who want to make gun ownership illegal. Yes, I know, I know - this rivalry's a given. But it never hurts to be reminded...

In terms of the options offered, I voted for Revolver vs. Auto...

That's not a rivalry, thats a war. As a Denver Broncos fan (hard these days) we have a great rivalry with the Raiders. I may not like Raiders fans, but at the end of the day at least we both like FOOTBALL.

Internal extractors vs External extractors.

American-made SIGs vs West Germany-made SIGS.

But my favorite rivalry debate was still raging when I took up Bullseye shooting in the early sixties: the Colt Officer's Match revolver vs the Smith & Wesson K-22 Masterpiece (model 17) and K-38 Masterpiece (Model 14) revolvers. Now those "discussions" were something special!

Before there were forums like this I used to hang out on rec.guns (20+ years ago) and I always laugh when I see threads about Glocks vs. 1911s or 9mm vs. .45. Its always the same old thing. My only problem is that they tend to become uncivil.

Frankly, its the same thing in other areas I've hung out on... Nikons vs. Canon, Ford vs. Chevy, prime vs. zoom lenses. It helps to take it all with a grain of salt.

I voted "other"

I almost voted manual safety vs no manual safety but I felt that it really comes down to

Single action vs Dual action because we can drop autos and wheel guns in that argument.

I happily voted for 9mm vs .40 vs .45. Ten or so years ago, maybe chocolate vs steel. But now my favorite caliber (9mm) often includes hollow points that penetrate 11 inches of ballistic jelly and expand at some point during that transite to 6/10". I have no experience with .40S&W, but plenty with the 1911 way back. I have never liked the 1911, so the .45 caliber has never figured high on my list. I'm a happy camper. A prejudiced camper, but a happy one. The more bangs, the better.

Cordially, Jack

I can't seem to make up my mind - Sigs vs Glock, 9mm vs .40S&W vs .357SIG vs .45ACP. I've used a Sig P238 (.380ACP) for front pocket carry. With Hornady Critical Defense ammo, I'm confident the round would do it's job if it met an attacker, even at 15 yds.

I think the poll is running just about as expected.

I voted for the caliber war. My second choice would have been Kool-Aid vs the world.
