The best hand gun that money can buy

I've only handled a Korth. Fit and finish was outstanding. The extractor fit in the
back of the cylinder so well you really had to look to see where the extractor ended and cylinder material started. It was perfection. However I'd never buy one. The money is too much. If I had millions I'd have one though. I would like to know how accurate they are out to at least 100 yards. I'll also add a Dan Wesson .357 pistol pac. The engineering is unique and excellent. The accuracy, well in IHMSA 90% plus tournaments were won with a Dan Wesson revolver. These guns are also known for being super strong and will take heavy loads all day unlike other big name revolvers that would, and did, shoot loose which was another reason why IHMSA was ruled by Dan Wessons.

A revolver such as
S&W 25 - 45 ACP or 45 Long Colt
S&W 29 - .44 magnum
S&W 21 - .44 Special
S&W 28 or 27 - .357 magnum
S&W 586 or 686 6 shot - .357 magnum
Colt Python - .357 magnum

I like the older models. They are well made and very reliable. S&W has their own custom shop, in house.

If you need more than 6 shots, then you must plan to miss a lot.:D

He said-if money does not matter and I thought he was saying for himself. That is why I recommended something totally custom, all stops out, money no object, made personally for him. All else is second best, unless he actually does find a production item that has totally everything he wants and likes and has no complaints about it. It is about time for him to add another two cents worth to the exercise.

Man that el presidente looks like one of those pimped out Taurus autos from the 90's! None of the three fit my idea of a custom exactly and probably don't fit the poster, either. There are other guns besides 1911's that you can have built up to your exact specs. Browning Hi Powers come to mind. Some places will do a Sig to your idea of perfection, but you don't have as many aftermarket parts. Same with Glocks, you can have them customized up to a point. Then revolvers can be worked over quite alot, especially S&W. He can look at a Korth, simply because it is most expensive and presumably quality, but it might not have the grips he likes, therefore, back to custom ideas. He says "the best that money can buy" and I still think it is something that is made up to your own desires and is yours, exclusively.

60s/70s vintage Colt Pythons. I also like the Colt 1911A1s from that era. S&W M27 5" was a great gun. The T series Browning Hi Power makes my heart race also. As you can see, quality does not require a second mortgage.

The "Royal Blue" of the Colt Python is certainly the most beautiful finish of any handgun I've ever seen. No one since has come up with anything of similar beauty. The action on the Python is quite possibly the best ever.

Second would be a '70's era Colt Gold Cup.

There are also some 3rd Generation Cold SAA's out there which are truly beautiful.

I've seen some S&W's custom finished which were close, but none as beautiful out of the box as the Python.

Just one man's opinion.

I hate the Colt and Python factory DA revolver grips. Therefore, another custom feature to make it ideal.

+1 on the stock Python grips. Probably the most uncomfortable ever produced.

Early on, I bought a set of smooth Herrett Shooting Master grips, and reworked them with file and sandpaper until they were just for me. Since then, I've tried several others, but I still go back to those late '70's Herrett's.

I have owned and currently own lots and lots of handguns. My current personal favorite pistol is my P7. Not only is it reliable, accurate and easy to use, it's just plain sexy. A nice extra in a competent combat firearm.

Still I notice the guy has an idea he wants to spend 12k on handguns! I have several that are seemingly "close to" ideal or perfect for me, but there are alot of details I could change if money were no object. Like changing front sights on revolvers without removable blades, spending some money for hand fitting a couple items on a .45, etc. that I just cannot afford or justify. Therefore they are not the best money could buy for me but represent the closest I can get for practical sums. 12k is not a practical sum for most of us. For that money, a real custom maker, maybe not even one of the most popular names, would set down with you and make something that no one else has, and is as perfect as humanly possible for your needs, I would think. So I still say, the commercial offerings, no matter how expensive or getting close to your perfect, could be upstaged by something totally custom. Now if he put his foot down and said he only had 1-2000 to spend for "perfection" he would have to accept something or other that is maybe 95% of what is perfect for him.

IMHO, the best handgun that money can buy........:

1. fits my hand like a glove
2. is 100% reliable
3. is consistantly accurate (point of aim)
4. is one I can totally rely on to defend me and my loved ones

For me:
1. Springfield Lightweight Custom Operator (4 in)
2. S&W 625-3

This is the one .

While there are many wonderful builders making many great handguns, I would have to give a nod of approval to Dan Wesson 1911's- Having just taken delivery of a new DW Classic Bobtail Commander .45ACP, I will tell you firsthand that there will be few guns as masterfully finished for the money......Fit and finish impeccable, accuracy great.

I think the original question is incomplete. Best for what? How much money really is involved. Some "free" [of restrictions] target pistols cost thousands of dollars and are absolutely the best for that limited purpose.

As an example, I might ask what is the best motor vehicle I can buy, price being no object.

The best would depend on what I want to use it for. An Italian sports car would be fine, but not for hauling 100 tons of coal. A semi-trailer reefer would be good for moving crates of lettuce, but would probably lose at Monte Carlo. And the "brickyard" is no place for one of those little Japanese "trikes." An Abrams tank (assuming I could buy one) would be the most costly, as well as best at taking out enemy battle tanks. But it is not an economy vehicle or one likely to be welcome on the neighborhood street.

So first, the OP needs to say what he wants to use the gun for. There has been a lot of mention of Korth, and they are fine guns, but not for concealed carry. Likewise, an S&W 642 will win no national championships at Perry.

Welcome to the forum.

You have posted some interesting questions. You can tell we do love to go gun shopping with other people's money. But that tells you about us.

Asking us to pick out the best gun for you is like asking us to pick out the best wife for you. A difficult task, and impossible without knowing something about you.

I notice that you favor 1911 style large caliber guns, and are fond of engraving. I infer that you prefer showpieces more than simple tools. Am I correct? Are you interested in historical pieces like the first Colt Automatic Pistol or commemeration guns produced to mark historical events?

Do you have a lot of experience with using firearms? Are you a hunter, Law Enforcement Officer? Military? Spy? Something else? Will the guns you contemplate be collectible or will they be used daily?

Please enlighen us. You will get better answers.
