The 'AK-47' of handguns

As long as the cz 75 is around, it cannot be a glock. The cz75 does everything better than the glock 17.

That is a fact, i have tested these two head to head. No one has to believe me, do the test yourself and spend as much time and money as i have.

I mention the 1911 as the ak of pistols because of its long military history. The fact that in its original form it is an old reliable war horse that has served and served well. Ditto for the Browning High Power.

Ps, a cz will work after being put in an oven or fire because its made of steel. This fact is as irrelevant as leaving a glock in salt water.

Thanks for all the input guys!

While a Glock is indeed a fine weapon, The research I've done has shown that they do have issues while limp wrist firing. While this cant be the case for all of them, Its a determining factor for me.

I'm still leaning heavily toward the 1911, its history, ease of maintenance, and reliability (no problems limp wristing) are making it more and more of 'the One'

I hear your concern about limp wristing, but honestly ANY autoloader is susceptible to it. I have found my Glock 23 to be nearly impossible to limp wrist, even with a 2 finger light hold.

The Hi Power (which I also own) would be my second on your list. Without a doubt the most used miliatary side arm for a long time- the British SAS still use it. However, I will say that the BHP seems more prone to limp wrist FTF than the Glock- never done it to me, but my wife gets FTF's with the Hi Power occasionally.

Edit: if I was going to war and had to use a pistol, I would take a BHP. But, thats just me.

yup, its a slight chance with any of them, its more of a case of which has the slightest chance. the 1911, HK45, and fnp 45 all score highly...

Simple, rugged, easy to use and take down. Doesn't need to be cleaned very often. Reliable, and UGLY! There's only one pistol that fits the description:

Glock.

The Browning HP-like the AK-47, verywidely distributed and a very simple and rugged design in a widely used caliber.

Smith and Wesson Model 10

Or 1911A1

I'm with you, but I hate to classify these fine guns with the piece of crap AK.

I love it when people talk about how many countries use the AK, well DUH (as my granddaughter would say). Those AKs were given to them by the commies.

I love the venerable 1911 and the Hi-Power but my vote has to go to the pistol that has shown itself to be the most reliable under the most extreme conditions and that is the Glock. There are many more attractive and more accurate out there but none that I know of will stand up to the abuse a Glock will take and still be functional. Just IMHO.

Another vote for the Glock. everyone everywhere has one, relitively cheap,Simple rugged design, ugly as sin. yeah they compare.

What does that have to do with the price of eggs?

I have several 1911's and think they're great but should be excluded from consideration for the lack of being hi-cap.
The BHP, maybe, thirty years ago. The Glock is being used all over the world, is reliable, plenty accurate, easy to clean, hi- cap. Sounds like an AK to me.
