The .41 Magnum Club

If you're looking for a pic or two: here's my 4 digit serial numbered Old Model (3-screw) with a set of stocks I made up from horse fencing. Given the unthinkable demand to limit my handguns to one and only one...this pistola would be a very strong contender. Best Regards, Rod

My Mod. 58 was my second purchase of S&W guns. It was lightly used as I first saw it.
It saw use in finishing off a feral Hog. I shot an Exotic Ram with it … 6 years after I bought the .41. It is going to be retired as one of my house guns. ( loaded all the time … naw)
Later on I bought a 10 inch TC/Contender Barrel with a schnabel / front fore end. My Hotter handloads go thru that single shot.
Yep, I am glad to be a member of the “ .41 Magnum Society” .

...so did anyone get anything with a .41 this hunting season?

Was about to drop the hammer on a nice doe opening morning in Pennsylvania when a friend hunting nearby shot at one and scared mine off... Was the only shot I had all week...

I recently went to a local gunshow looking for a set of flat bottom grips for one of my 1911's and though none of the dealers had none, one did have this new in box TALO edition Redhawk in .41mag. When I saw it I had to really contain my excitement and try to make a deal. I did and now my .41mag Redhawk collection is complete.

Got a shorter barrel Ruger 3 screw .41 back in 79 or 80 and liked it some, was beginning to get an appreciation for the .41 mag, but unfortunately where I lived the revolver I had wasn't legal for deer (barrel too short) and I needed a deer rifle, so I wound up letting it go and getting a Marlin .30-30.

After that, I never got another .41, got interested in .44s and .45s instead.

Nothing wrong with the .41, just not for me.

I've had a 57 and a 58 both went years ago for something else that's also gone. I'm likely to get a 657 at some point or maybe a Ruger Redhawk, but for now the Bisley Blackhawk fills my needs.

I had a pristine 58 that I stupidly traded years ago, but still have a 6” 657 and a Blachhawk 4 4/8”. Don’t shoot them much but I’ll never get rid of them.

Thank you....It's definitely a hand full to hold on to when shooting full house loads. I'm going to work on some loads that could be considered .41 special just for some plinking. I was also thinking about sending it off to Mag-na-port for the barrel slot treatment. I have the Taurus 415 that has a ported barrel and it really helps to keep the barrel down.

My go to load with 210-220gr bullets for the last 35+ years has been 8.2-8.4gr of Green Dot. Shoots clean and substantial enough to be potent but not too bad recoil wise, about the level of a stout .357mag. I’ve also loaded it down as low as 4.5gr for an almost .38sp level recoil without any issues.

Guess I forgot to list my favored load in the Ruger above as well as three others in the family, plus a M57 Smith. With Hornady's 210 XTP or RCBS 215 gr 41-215 (LSWC), 6.7 gr of Win 231 will give a chrono'd 938-955 fps and superb accuracy. Benched these are ~1.5" groupers at 25 yds. Both give all the smack I could ask for, short of real hunting loads.

For my KY whitetails, 17.0 gr of 2400 with the Hornady 210 XTP gives me 1170 fps from my 4-5/8" Ruger and a bit more from the Smith M57.
