I have 4 Taurus handguns that have served me well. I have never had to use their customer service so I cannot comment on that. Here are mine.

I bought a 617 (7-shot .357 snubbie) about two years ago. As delivered, it had a horrible trigger (felt like it was being dragged through sand) and locked up after about 20-30 rounds ... I debated sending it back to Taurus, but finally just took it to an excellent local 'smith ... for $85, he gave it a glass-smooth trigger and opened up the cylinger-barrel gap slightly; he said it was so tight that heat from firing expanded the metal enough to lock the cylinder ... I hated to spend the extra money, but I got full value from the work and now love the gun ... it's sitting next to me as I type, it's my around-the-house gun when I'm home, loaded with .38 +p SJSPs ...

Bought one Taurus, a 4" 357 titanium Tracker. I loved it until the face of the cylinder started cratering around the chambers. It took three return trips of about 2 months each, at my shipping expense to finally get it fixed. For what I paid extra in shipping I could have had a S&W Mountain lite instead of the Taurus to begin with. After the Taurus was finally fixed I was so disgusted with their customer service and product that I didn't want it anymore so I sold it. When I sold the Taurus I was able to get just over 1/2 of what I originally paid for it. At the same time Mountain lites were already selling used for their original new purchase price.

If you get a good Taurus you'll be happy but if you get a bad you have to deal with their lousy customer service and you'll be lucky if they ever get it fixed correctly. You also have to be ready to take a bath on resale since people see a used Taurus and assume that someone sold it because it is a problem gun. The difference in price between a Taurus and a first tier manufacturer is not as great as it once was. In most cases an extra $100 gets you to the better gun and is well worth the extra cost for a better product and service. If cost is the big factor I'd take a used S&W, SA, Glock, or Ruger over a new Taurus every time.

You need another choice in the poll:

My First and last Taurus was such a P.O.S. that I took it back to the shop in pieces and got my money back.

I bought a Taurus PT92. On the first range trip, on the first mag, the slide locked up and the rear sights fell off. Took it back where I bought it and got a refund.

Taurus Experience

I voted "sent back more than once"--but there's a bit more to the story and I might have skewed the result. I've owned three Taurus revolvers in the time frame you specified.

1. Model 650 CIA .357 Magnum Stainless. This looked great but was a disaster. It would lock up on the third shot in each cylinder and shaved every round. Sent it back to the factory twice and traded it in.
2. Model 850 CIA .38 Special (Blue). This was a great revolver for the few months that I owned it. Put about 500 rounds through it without mishap. Very accurate. Gave it to my sister because she needed one.
3. Model 605 .357 Magnum (Blue). So far, so good. I've put more than 500 rounds through it and couldn't ask for better performance. It locks up tight and is more accurate than I am.

My two cents: When a good revolver comes out of the factory, it's about as good as it gets for the money. When a bad one gets out, it's terrible. A life-time warranty is meaningless if you spend your money returning it and don't have a backuip. I have no experience with their semi-autos.
