PT1911

My 2 year old PT1911 in stainless has been problem free. Recommend Pachmeyer rubber and rosewood grips to improve the fit in the hand and dress up the appearance.

I had two of the Beretta clone 9mms. One failed right out of the box, and the other broke within the first 300 rounds. I had their Win clone .22 auto rifle, which repeatedly jammed.

My 24/7 Pro Ds in 9mm has been perfect, trigger take up could be less, but light and crisp in S/A and reset is short. Shoots to poa.

I have two older revolvers a 38 model 85ss that is first class and i carried it for 20+ years and a 22 3" barrel that finally had to have a look over. taurus went through it and had it back to me in less than 2 weeks total time . It is about 25 years old and everyone in the family has shot the poop out of it. Might buy me a 9mm revolver soon. Seem like in most cases it a vocal minority that do the whin'n.

I had a model 85SSUL.
The cylinder would bind on spent cartridges right out of the box.
With a two month repair time, I traded it off a couple of days after I got it back.
I didn't want to chance having to deal with them again.

It might be neat for everyone to post thier round count.
With the problems I had with mine I still put 360 rounds down range in 30 days. I'm a shooter. Plus I wanted to rule out ammo problems!

I have spoke with some about thier experience with Taurus. They say "Oh my has been fine, 3 yrs now & not a problem" When asked how many rds they say they fired it when they purchased it, then it sat in the night stand or underwear drawer.
I have no problem with that being done. It just says something about the wear & tear.

I wish all that have had no trouble with thier's continued success!

@ Fullthrottle - I read the post back & because I used the same time frame that you had just posted just before me it appeared that I was refering to you.

I assure you it was a general comment. Besides, you had posted your rd count!

It sounds like you got a keeper!

Well, so far, results seem to indicate a reliability rate of approx. 70% for new Taurii. Not as bad as some would have you believe, but not great either.

I think if I get a Taurus anything it's got to be the PT-92. There's one in my local shop for $350 that is sorely tempting my natural restraint.

In early 2008, I bought an 85ULCH. All told, I probably sent about 100 rounds down range. I can't be real specific because it wasn't pleasant and I haven't dwelt on the experience.
Early on, the cylinder bound up on me. The snubby was shaving bullets on the left side of the forcing cone. I took it back to my LGS, and they sent it back for repair. After several weeks, I got it back, took it to the range, and it locked up again on the 2nd cylinder. Sent it back again. When I got it back, it locked up on the 3rd chamber of the 1st full cylinder. (This I do remember - too well!) The shaving was so large I had to use my pocket knife to remove it and free up the cylinder. This time, when I talked to BrazTech, they said I should use 158gr cartidges. I found that to be ridiculous and told them so. A brand new revolver that won't shoot 130gr FMJ rounds? My LGS gave me full credit toward another purchase.
I KNOW there are excellent Taurus handguns out there. I even know some people who have them. I didn't happen to get one. I won't buy a new Taurus again because of their service. There are simply too many other manufacturers with good customer service available for me to take my chances with Taurus and BrazTech.

I've got 5 Taurus handguns, three of them purchased in the last 5 years (2 revolvers and one auto pistol). One revolver went back to the factory for some adjustment and it has been fine since. Overall I have been happy with Taurus over the years, but they can have some initial QC issues and I strongly suggest giving one a thorough look-over before buying - as if you were looking at a used gun. They can be a great value for the $ if you are picky about what you accept to begin with. If you see something you're not happy with, ask the dealer to bring you a different one. You should be able to avoid most issues if you know what to look for.

pt140 millenium pro

I love it.. not sure about the # of rounds...

no issues...

i can hit a softball at 25 and yards with USMC 180gr.... not sure how good that is, but for me.. it is fine...

It's impossible for me to vote on this, since 3 of 4 Taurus handguns I've purchased since '08 are excellent, and very reliable. But #4 is a POS ... I've sent it back and it's still not FIXED!!!!

So, how should I vote? Go with the majority and say Taurus guns are excellent .... or focus on the one bad one?

I'll withhold my vote until you've all voted on my question of which way I should vote .... :D

Heres the thing for me personally. I don't own a Taurus and wouldn't because even though you read people who have had great luck there are almost as many that have had crap. This should speak volumes in comparison to a S&W or Ruger which Taurus simply can't match. All manufacturers have at some point had their issues and S&W and Ruger are no exception here but look at the history. Taurus has improved recently in quality but even those that have had good guns say their service is absolutely horrid. It really depends on what you want the gun for. If you just want a throw around general gun then maybe spending less and getting a Taurus might be ok but in the words of Forest Gump with a few words changed " Buying a Taurus is like a box of chocolates, you never know whats inside". At least buying a S&W or Ruger will eliminate most of these concerns and when you consider a serious purchase like a handgun, what difference should a couple hundred dollars make for that solid piece of mind.:)

Had a PT145 I wish I hadn't sold to a friend that had over 2000 rounds trouble free through it. He still has it and it hasn't failed.

I think you ought to be able to vote two different things at the same time ... for those people that have multiple Taurii.
