Tell me I'm not crazy.

I love revolvers. I own a Smith and I have a collection of NAA mini revolvers. A total of 6 all together. There is just something about seeing the cylinder turn when the hammer is cocked or the trigger is pulled. I always feel bad when I go to the gunstore and people are looking at semi-autos and I am the only one looking at revolvers. I was watching a show the other day and they reffered to revolvers as antiquated technology. I love revolvers. I love when they are used in movies. I thought I would own a semi-auto at one point but when I look at guns I keep coming back to revolvers. Somebody tell me I am not crazy for loving revolvers. Thank you. Thanks for reading.

I don't love revolvers like you do, but I can understand and appreciate someone loving them that much.

I will say though that I certainly don't see them as antiquated technology. If you want the most reliable multi-shot handgun possible then you need a revolver. No amount of technology can make a system as complex as a semi-auto as reliable as a system as simple as a revolver. The only thing more reliable is a single-shot, but who wants to have only one shot available?

If civilization fell apart tomorrow and I could only carry one handgun on me, it would definitely be a revolver.

Yes, you are

Yes, you are crazy.

The same kind of crazy that leads people to love steam locomotives, grandfather clocks with pendulums that tick-tock and hand carved wood.

Bless you and all who share your insanity.

Paradoxically, it is one of the things that keeps the world sane.

Generally speaking, most revolvers share much in common with revolvers made 100 years ago (as do 1911 pistols). In my way of thinking, that just means that it is a very proven design. The trusty ol revolver has done the job for a long time and most improvements have been gradual.

Here's a quote for you

I was poking around on another forum, saw this and just had to come back and share.

P.S. I love fine revolvers. The fine lockwork, the strength, the finish. I also find the P08 Luger and the 1911 quite engaging, as well as a smooth lever-action. I am just enamored of fine machines.

I'm a handgun collector with new and old, military and commercial, antique, C&R and modern, revolvers, autos, single shots, blackpowder and smokeless, etc. Despite owning lugers, P38s, woodsmans, high standards, 1911 variants, 32 autos, 25 autos, etc my handgun collection is mostly revolvers, and I think it will stay that way. Despite what I've learned, and what others do, I do now and will most likely always gravitate towards revolvers. I have S&W Colt, and a few others. I collect S&Ws and in their model history, I definitely prefer their revolvers. That is probably the biggest reason I like revolvers. I also can appreciate Dan Wesson, Ruger, Colt and perhaps a few others. I am fond over a good semi but there is something about a revolver. I also shoot better overall with revolvers.

Its important to buy, shoot, learn about, and appreciate what YOU like. I have little regard for other's tastes because I will buy what I like, and they will buy what they like, and so we don't have to agree on what makes a fine handgun. You have to be your own person, and you have to be your own collector and or shooter.

There is an expression or a "movement" called steam punk. This is a love or fixation with "old" technology. Just think you are one of the group. :D

Hey, I love firearms of all configurations. So long as they're well built.
So, crazy? No. Obsessive, maybe.
Obsessions give us focus in life.
That's a good thing isn't it?

Sounds like a childhood thing, maybe you grew up watching westerns, how often do you see a semi in a cowboy movie.

I used to watch both western's, and WWII or war movie, and I first wanted a semi first, and when the Glock come out, I thought it was the coolest modern gun, I never got a Glock, but my first handgun was a poly frame 9mm hi-cap.

Then I saw in a magazine, the new S&W 8 shot .357 M627 revolver. Love at first sight.

I now own 7 modern revolvers, including the NAA mini revolver , and 3 modern semi's, not including my two CZ52's.

So, I go both ways, but I own more revolvers, so your just half crazy.:D

TBS, I carry a S&W 638 and the NAA, and my bed buddy is a SP101 3" loaded "Hot".

I just came in from doing some plinking. Today I was shooting a Ruger P90, Beretta 92f, and a Taurus 85 DAO .38 snubby. I enjoyed shooting the snubby the most. Besides the Taurus I own Ruger and S&W revolvers and a few semi's and I always enjoy shooting the revolvers the most. When I carry concealed I carry the .38 snubby.

Not crazy at all. One of my favorite sight/sounds in the world is rolling the hammer back on a revolver. Been playin' around with cap and ball sixshooters lately, and I must confess I do enjoy sighting thru the cloud of smoke billowing from the cylinder and barrel.
To me, all revolvers have a much more "personal" feel, with the fitting and whatnot. I picture a guy with stones and files lovingly assembling a nice sixgun, even though I'm sure that doesn't happen much anymore. When I picture a polymer pistol assembly line, I picture some ham fisted dude named Bruno with a mallet.

I never carry anything but revolvers. If the name of the cartridge doesn't end in the word "magnum," I doubt it's enough to get the job done.

Crazy in the best possible sense of the word. While most of my guns are autos I really appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into a revolver. To me it seems like something so intricate and that needs to be timed has more of a soul then my glocks.

Enjoy!

Is a madman sane or is a sane man mad? It's all in the eyes of the beholder. :D

I think you're perfectly sane . . . and I agree . . . there is nothing like a revolver. Whether I'm sighting down the barrel of a 1851 Colt Navy or a 1910 Colt Army Special or a Ruger New Vaquero . . . it's all good! :)

I was talking with a friend who owns a pretty good size gunshop . . he was talking about the "kids" today . . . they have to have all the bells and whistles of the latest "semi-autos" (and before someone jumps on me, there's nothing wrong with semi-autos). He said that very few young folks who cross his doorstep are interested in a revolver. (Probably because they didn't grow up with Roy Rogers, Gene Autry or the Cisco Kid). I stood back one time in his store and watched . . . it's a busy store in a college town. He was right. But you know, that's O.K. . . . it leaves more revolvers for us old farts to drool over.

About all I look at anymore is revolvers. I have my semi-auto's 1911, 9mm's and 22lr. All I want anymore is the classic revolvers and the so called new buyers have no intrest in them, they all want 100 round capacity which makes me very, very happy.

Coincidently, I was actually in a nice gun store today getting a XS night sight put in on my Ruger SP101, and noticed I was the only guy in a very packed store gazing at the revolvers. All others were talking about 1911's or tupperware guns.

I think you either get it or you don't. I'm fairly young,(31), but I actually grew up watching all the westerns and cop movies my dad loved so it's sort of engrained. Just from a mechanical perspective, my SP101 is much more interesting for me to shoot than my Glock 26. I start pulling the trigger and hear these little clicks while the hammer comes back and the cylinder moves, then BANG! Awesome!

The Glock just goes 'BANG', but at least it's very reliable about it.:p

I am a revolver nut, about to buy two more revolvers later in the year. I just like them. Better to have them in 22lr than auto's IMO, no loading of magazines.:D

I took a friend shooting a few weeks ago, and although we shot a variety of pistols, he kept coming back to the revolver (a nickel-plated S&W pre-model 10). He thoroughly enjoyed it, and at one point, he even said "I feel like a cowboy shooting this!". We're both military officers, so it's not as if we're new shooters, but all of his pistol experience up to that point had been with semi-automatics.

I went through all the "phases" I guess of owning different guns from revolvers to polymer autos. After some years of shooting I realise that for ME....nothing beats a revolver or a 1911. My whole collection consists of revolvers, 1911's, a hi-power, and a browning buckmark (gotta have a nice single action .22 plinker).

The only thing I ever look at anymore are revolvers and 1911's....and it's mostly revolvers. AND I always go to the used gun area first. Always looking for those older smith and colt DA wheelguns!
