I have the .41 titanium Tracker.Nice light revolver with porting which creates a flamethrower effect along with the attention-getting" bang".Fun to own and show off but a real bear to shoot.Wear good shooting gloves to protect the knuckle of your long finger from being shattered by the back of the trigger guard during recoil phase.Single action is excellent, but D/A is rather gritty and heavy. This will probably improve with further shooting.About 30 rounds at a time are all I can handle and still have a right hand available.Recoil doesn't bother me but pain and swelling does.

Logistar...

Surely you're joking with me! Sometimes I'm a little gullible, but not THAT gullible! Staple not in left hand corner? One document inserted upside down? Losing the check? You're joking, right? Tell me that you're joking!
If you're not joking, I'd LOVE to see a copy of that rejection sheet. Do you think it would be possible to send me a copy of the rejection sheet via e-mail?

I have the 627 Titanium revolver (4" barrel). No complaints, except that the few Cor-Bons that I fired caused a bit of spalling on the cylinder face. I'm sending it back to Taurus today to have it replaced.

BTW, Logistar...

I've had no trouble shooting .357 mags through mine. I did, however, find that a low-angle adjustment in the rear sight will cause the muzzle to flip disturbingly, especially with full-house maggies. Proper adjustment of the sight and the use of standard power loads eliminates this problem.

Logistar is NOT kidding. I called Ray's to find out what the hold up was and that's when they told me. They asked if he would like a letter explaining everythings and I told them that would be a good idea :) . Believe me.... it took every bit as long as Logistar said. *I* should know. *I* was the one who got to hear all about it. But now he's a happy camper and life is good once more :D .

BTW - does your wife ever get on here? I would sure like to ask her about carrying (get another woman's point of view on things). Other than you and Logistar... I don't talk to anyone else yet. I'm still trying to figure out how to nagivate :o .

Rickmeister, as soon as I can get some money together I am going to buy a .357 magnum revolver for myself. This will NOT be a carry gun so size and weight are not a problem. I kinda like the Model 627 (that you have) - although possibly in SS instead of Titanium and I am also going to look at the Model 608.

I am glad to hear that recoil isn't so bad on the 637. The weight of your 637 appears to be identical to the 650 (both 24 oz). The 650 definately is uncomfortable for me shooting Federal Hi-Shok .357s. I will try and talk Lace into letting me try other .357 loads in it to see if I can find a slightly "kinder" cartridge.

Kentucky Rifle, I will forward you that rejection sheet via Email. Originally, I believe that Ray had one of the sheets upside down. When he sent it back in corrected, he said they rejected it again because he did not include the check. He says that THEY didn't return the check when the package was rejected so he didn't put a new one in (assuming they were holding onto his original check). Anyway, I was impressed that Ray would take the time to copy and send that document to me. I will have to say that I have been VERY well treated at Rays Firing Range. I have no complaints about their personel there.

Buy a Smith.

Taurus is a fine weapon if you are not going to shoot lots of rounds through the weapon, if the gun is just going to sit on your night stand its an okay choice, only because they are cheap. I see more Taurus that need factory repair than any other revolver period. They do have advantage over their competition because they make a lot of weapons others don't.
Smith and Wesson is back to being 100% american owned, so you buy one without shame.

Taurus revolvers and autos are junk. The revolvers are better than the auto's in that most of them at least work. I had a Custom 605 that went out of time in just 250 magnum rounds. The 44 I owned was terribly inaccurate. I don't care for them

355sigfan:

I understand you seem to have had some problems with the Taurus. However, not all of the revolvers are "junk". My 650 is wonderful! I couldn't ask for better performance. It is comfortable to hold, easy to conceal and right on taget when firing. Maybe you just got a "lemon". Just don't judge all the Taurus firearms by the one you have. There are others out there -- like me -- who seem to be very satisfied with them. I don't claim to be an expert by any means. I'm just stating my opinion :) .

Pat,
This is not a flame or complaint. Just a gentle reminder that she is a new member and is also very proud of her new Christmas pistol and CCW license. IMHO, The Firing Line and shooting in general needs more women who are as enthusiastic as she seems to be. Plus the fact that she enjoys firing a .357 magnum is a great thing. No .22's for her!
(No flame--gentle reminder.)

I own a Taurus M85, M605, M606 and a PT-111. All have worked flawlessly. I think Taurus makes great products at reasonable prices.

Try the 357 CIA

Just finished fixing a Model 58 for a friend. Took it out and fired it with outstanding results. I'm not a big T fan but for my money, the T 357 CIA might be my Wheel of choice for back-up carry. :)

Brandon

What did you have to fix? Also, was that CIA made of titanium? Finally, if it was made of titanium, did it have the ports?

Thanks,
KR

Reviving due to search & interest in Taurus revolvers for a first time gun owner.

It seems that Taurus has been "going up" while S&W has "Sold out and is going down." Besides the addition of the key-lock on new S&Ws, are there any other reasons why SWs are losing some popularity?

Personally, the only Taurus I'm looking at for my first revolver purchase is the .44 magnum Raging Bull, simply for fun, target shooting, and a POSSIBLE stint in hunting wild boars in Hawaii. I am rather confused by the conflicting statements made about Taurus though, some hate them, some love them. I think I'm going to have to see for myself :(

I did not vote because I do not own a Taurus.
I like them after carefull observation.
They look like they are well designed.
My next gun will be a Taurus 850 Titanium or a Taurus PT911.

I recently had an occassion to examine an 85S Taurus Snub in .38 spec. I compared it to a S&W model 36 which seems to be what the Taurus is a clone of. I did not shoot the Taurus. Here are my findings: the DA pull is gritty, the SA pull actually has a "stop" in it, the wood grips do not mate up to the metal, the ejector rod has interference about half way through th push, the front sight is twisted and the rear sight is grossly off center. The S&W #36 and the Taurus are not even in the same league, in fact I wonder if they are playing the same game. The #36 is my occassional carry gun and I have owned and shot it for many years. The Taurus was NIB. Quantrill

I have owned and still own a few Tauri. The 627 Tracker .357, 85 .38Spl.+ P, 85 Ultra Lite .38Spl.+P, and a few others I'm probably forgetting about. The BEST of the bunch is my 689, .357.

I recently purchased a .455 and have it up for auction (sale). There is nothing wrong with the gun, after shooting it, I just don't like it. The same kind of situation as with the first Glock I purchased.;)

Model 608SS4....luv'n it...

Great gun. My absolute favorite .357 ever.

Solid, great feel, good weight, and 2 extra rounds for taking care of business.

I had it off to a smith to do some work. (machine for moon clips and a good action/trigger job)

With Federal 200 primers, its 100% reliable.

Taurus should get off their butts and start doing that mod to all their factory 608s.

You can probably guess how I voted.

Supporting FACTS

I have several Taurus handguns including: the 608 (8-shot, .357 magnum, awesomelooking gun) and PT 145 Mil. Pro.

Never had a reason to complain, hard though I looked having been badgered by the glib pro-S&W, pro-H&K, pro-Ruger, etc. outbursts.

Surely, there are posters who share genuine experience that are negative towards Taurus. But similarly there are posters who share genuine negative experiences against other much more expensive name-brands.

I have a friend who bought an SP101 - much praised, deemed almost 100% perfect(!). The gun could only satisfy his requirements when 158 gr. bullets are used - and he is no novice.

The FACTS I have from using Taurus handguns do not support - at this time - any negative rating.

My experience

I have a Taurus 731 UL, the .32 H&R Magnum, and I like it. I had the trigger bobbed, and now it is a great little pocket gun.

I have over 350 rounds through it, and I can't imagine any gun being better...some just as good maybe, but...the trigger pull is nice, the gun shoots each time you pull the trigger, and the bullet goes where it is supposed to. What more could you ask for?
