I had to vote against Taurus. I had a judge. When it worked I LOVED to shoot 410. Sadly, the gun hardly worked. Sure that can happen with any gun. Lemons come up now and then. The problem was Taurus never fixed it and they refused to even speak to me after many phone calls and emails.

Does Charter make a 6-shot gun?

Only .22's I think... (Edited later... they DO have a 6-shot .38!)

Now that I think about it, a big consideration is... How much do you plan on shooting it? Charters are not produced as "range guns"... As their literature even says, they're... "meant to be carried a lot and shot a little".

A gun like the Ruger SP101 will last more than a lifetime as a range gun so that's what I mostly shoot revolver-wise. 'Course 38's are a lot cheaper to shoot than 44's unless you reload (I do). But the durability of the SP101 costs some in weight. I rarely CARRY my SP101 because of the weight.

The SP101 is still advertised in a 6-shot .327 Magnum version but I think they're actually kinda hard to find... Could probably order one but it might take awhile... (Ammo expensive for that too.) It's the same size as the 5-shot .357's.

To me, 5 shots in a major caliber is enough... but it's YOUR call.

Do you like the Ruger LCR's? They come in either .357 or .38 versions... VERY light for carry... 5-shot also.

I like the 5-shot revolvers for carry. The 6-shots are just too bulky for me to easily conceal. It's a trade-off.

good point, but i think i may have seen a 6-shot charter .38 in a old catalog, guess i'll have to see if i can find it.
And I am not a fan of the LCR, nothing against Ruger, i just prefer a exposed hammer, the way i see it, the cocking of a hammer is enough to scare the crap out of an attacker.

The .22 Magnum version of the Pathfinder is as small as I'd ever consider. Plain .22 is just too weak.
To me, five shots of .38 or higher is WAY better for SD than six .22's - plain or magnum. There's also the consideration that rimfire ammo is less reliable than centerfire, statistically.

I thought Taurus had a lifetime warranty. What happened?

I would buy the version of the pathfinder with the ability to shoot both .22 and .22 magnum, then you would get the magnum power for self defense and the regular .22 for things like squirrels, rabbits, and other pests that get on your property.
