Both the Judge and the Mag Pug are good revolvers for concealed carry, but they are a world apart, Mag Pug: .357 Magnum, Judge: .45/.410. Just wondering which J-frame is better to use for Concealment/Home Defense.

The Judge is not a "J-frame".

I would far and away rather have a Charter .357 snub (or its equivalent from Taurus, S&W or Ruger) than a Judge.

Would have to go with the best product from Charter Arms, their field proven flagship model, the 44 spl Bulldog.

What is the judge

The marketing hype bug that almost bit me. It is not a serious contender for HD compared to other more proven designes. Many carry it for snakes or birds where I could see a use for it.

If you're looking for CC, I would definitely suggest the Charter over the Judge just based on size. Judges are quite a bit larger and it would take a lot more money and effort to get it even half as properly and comfortably concealed as the Charter for most people.

Have you ever seen/handled a Judge? They're considerably bigger than they look in pictures.

I'm with Seaman. The Charter .44 Special Bulldog is a great SD gun. I have one. It's the same size as my Ruger SP101 in .357... but lighter.

(Regarding .357: IMHO, .357 Magnum is too much ear-splitting power for indoor use so I usually load mine with .38+P's for SD.)

To me, there really is something special about .44 Special... Love my Bulldog.

How does .44 special recoil, in comparison to, say, a .45?

Very similar... Of course it depends on the ammo loadings used but, generally speaking, .44 Special is just a tad softer-shooting. My Bulldog recoil is very manageable tho' the gun is listed at only 22 oz. empty.

To me, .44 Special is the revolver version of .45 ACP... Love that big bore.

Yep... 5 shots for the .44 Special Bulldog... (and the Ruger SP101 .357 too... BTW, I have the bobbed hammer version of the SP101.)

Does Charter make a 6-shot gun, even though i would be using the gun for concealed carry, a difference of one shot could be the difference between life and death/serious injury, especially with a revolver
