Tactical Light for home defense

Do you use a gun with a tac light for home defense?

mrgoodwrench76 ---- Average price for a TLR 1 is around a hundred bucks (Google really is your friend) and the TLR 2 is a little over 2 hundred. The updated ones with the C4 led's are a little higher but worth the money.

I cant seem to get my pic to upload but I keep a G17 near my bed with a TLR1 attached.

Really? What's a Google? How and why is he my friend? Don't know him.. :(

I see....So my plan is this.....Get the TLR-1 and wait till I get more money all at once to spare for the TLR-2 w/ the C4 LED bulb.

Valentines day, some debts..My car is lease and is FINALLY done in May, the 3rd. My last payment is April thankfully!

Financial times are really tough for us gun nuts.

G17 ;) nice...I wanna see a pic of that. My G22 would have done the trick but it's a Gen2 :( no rail.

I have a G17 w/night sights for my HD weapon. Apparently there are a lot of people using lights now on handguns and we are now selling just as many FAS1-TL boxes as we are FAS1's. The TL (tactical light) version simply has a holster for gun w/a light or laser mounted on it.

Yup

Here it is...

Kimber Pro TLE/RL with Streamlight TLR-3. I love this combo!

*yes I know it's not locked in this pic ;) Don't worry, it was empty.

I have thought about it and for home defense, no way. I know every inch of my home. I live in a very well lit neighborhood and enough light comes in that I have no requirement for a light to see where I am going. Besides I figure two things.

First if they are breaking in at night they probably have a light which makes them an easy target.

Second if I have a light I can be seen and am now an easier target than a shadowy figure in the dark.

You don't have to be a tac light sort of guy to use a flashlight. Flashlights at night are a must... when you hear a bump in the dark if you turn your light on your eyes automatically start to adjust... If you leave your room after turning the light on you have compleatly destroyed your vision for up to five min... With a flashlight the beam is projected infront of you not directly at your eyes so there isn't as big of a trasitional phase... The biggest differance between a regular flashlight and what some call a "tac" or tactical light is that the beam is usually more of a focused beam instead of just a bright light... THe one I have, hellfighter, used to be mounted on my AR... Sold the ar and kept the light to use at work. Love it

I'm with phenrichs on this. I know my home well and there's enough ambient light for me to see at night. I have a handheld flashlight, but would only use it if I needed to. I figure flashlights work both ways. It gives the bad guy early warning that I'm coming. Plus, with kids in the house, I don't want to shine a light on them that's attached to a gun.

That is so sick! Though all this time I was under false pretense...That we were friends. I shall sulk now. :D lol just kidding. Nice gun man seriously. Going to look into videos of it being shot. Thanks for sharing. :)

My 2 HD options:

I don't love the TLR-3's fit on my FNP-9 (a tad too far from the trigger gaurd forcing me to use my off-hand thumb to activate), but this is the best it gets with the available keys. Other option is to grab my 92fs and a light. If my wife is home and in the bedroom (we don't have kids yet), I would probably fore-go any light at all.

White or tactical light set-ups...

I voted "no" but I'd opt for the choice of; "no but I'd have a light close by". ;)

I like a few of the tactical white lights but for general use I'd use a laser aiming unit or night sights.

White lights serve a practical use but require practice and proper tactics.

ps; If you buy a white light, get a good brand with the strobe or flashing format. That could assist in control or containing a bad guy or subject in low light conditions.

I voted no for two reasons

1. If we hear a bump in the night while we're sleeping we're going to bunker down and calling 911 and be armed in the room.

2. If I'm outside of the house and its dark, and something goes "bump", I'm color blind and I have a little bit better night vision than most, so I use it as an advantage, a light would take that advantage away from me.

Edit: my wife reminded me that if i get sweeped by someone with a light then I'm $%^%, OK just gives me an area to put #4 buck then :D
