Switching to the Dark Side - Glock 19 or 17?

The vast majority of full capacity magazines available in America have no distinctive pre/post ban markings whatsoever. Shy of being a total idiot, by buying right across the state line or something, how exactly would anyone get caught resisting this stupid law?

That's not true at all, companies have made lots of changes to magazines since the 94 AWB. Preban Glock mags are either U notch or have the caliber markings lower than postban, preban sig mags have a zipper back, preban Beretta mags have a sharper indent, the list can go on. Not to mention that many guns on the market like the M&P do not have preban mags.

As far how you would get caught? Having to use your gun in self defense whether in the home or out in public your gun will be confiscated as evidence, where they will absolutely check your magaiznes. So what's the point of having post ban mags if I can't even use them other than leave them in a box.

Personally I like the 17 better. If you aren't planning on carrying it, that is what I would choose.

Neither is better than the other, hold both and see what fits you better.

Massachusetts possession of a high capacity magazine, made before 1998/94, is a 10 year felony, why take the chance. Up until Sept 2014 a police officer could not own a high cap mag for his non issued gun. Our specials/part timers have to buy their own firearms on Dept. letterhead and they could only get 10 rd magazines. If they purchased a g23 and got high cap mages they would have to surrender them to the PD and then have them issued to them to be legal. The law changed in August and now LEO can posses high cap off duty. Strange State.

Well I'm trading someone Thursday my Beretta for a Gen 4 Glock 17. As much as I hate to get rid of the Beretta, money is tight, and Gen 4 Glock's aren't easy to come by in Massachusetts for reasons stated earlier in this thread. I was leaning towards the 17 since I wouldn't have carried the 19 anyway as I have a Shield, so all in all I am happy. Let's just help the deal goes though, because lord knows people love the change their minds at the last second.

I have both guns, but prefer to carry the 19. Both the 17 and the 19 shoot well, and my groups are not noticeably different with either gun. IMO the 19 has the advantage because it is easier and more comfortable to carry (if you choose to do so).

I've owned a couple 19s before and they are great if concealed carry is a primary concern but the 17 isn't that much bigger and hides easy enough for average size to larger people. I like the longer sight radius, not that it's much. I feel like I shoot the 17 better then the 19 but that's a pretty marginal diffrence. Get what ever you prefer or get a better deal on. They are both good pistols you'll enjoy.

Either Glock is good. I do prefer the 19, due to size and that its easier to carry/conceal. Not to beat a dead horse, yes MA gun laws are awful. I think its a certain mindset that wants to HARASS gun owners on a continuous basis. They just never stop in MA with ridiculous arbitrary and capricious laws, regulations and other pernicious rules. Get the Glock 19 and the so-called pre-ban mags as a symbol of defiance.

You won't go wrong with either of them. The thing is, if you buy one and don't like it, you can sell it or trade it pretty easily. I have found that Glocks hold their value pretty well.

Good luck!

That's the same reason people buy Toyotas and Hondas.
