Suggestions needed for a good CC pocket gun

It _was_ a tough choice. I'm sure that if I had just flipped a coin and chosen the PPK I'd be singing its praises now over that slightly larger, more inefficient Sig. ;) It was that close.

Seriously...shoot both. They're both good guns.

And, yes. James rocks. :)

Therapydude,

Try a Kel-Tec P11 or P40. They are small, lightweight, resonably accurate and tough. I picked up a P11 a couple months ago and like it a lot.

Coronach: Try a Kahr Mk9. I think you'll find that it is just about the same size as your Sig 232, but that recoil is no worse. Last weekend I took my Kahr Mk9 and my Glock 17 to the range. I was more accurate with the Mk9 than the Glock and recoil seemed no worse with the Mk9 than the full size Glock 17. Jared

Regarding the Kahr, I can't. Or rather, I can try it, I just can't carry it. My PD has a list of 'acceptable' off-duty weapons and the Kahr ain't on it.

I was _not_ overjoyed to discover that I was under such restrictions, but I was pleased to discover the PPK on the list...James Bond and all that. ;). So, I went into the purchase fully expecting to get the PPK, and I tested out the other guns just as matter of course...and ended up changing my mind.

I understand that others are not under such restrictions, but I have come to love my little P232, and in any instance where someone is looking for a CC gun in .380, I'll suggest it. Of course, if they want 9mm, thats a different story.

I regularly carry my Glock 26 in a pocket holster. Compact and light as the G26 is, it's on the large and heavy side for pocket carry. And yet it works well enough with deep pockets and roomy britches. Anything larger than a G26 would be too large for pocket carry, IMHO.

BTW, the holster is a Galco "Front Pocket."

HTH.

I was thinking the same thing. :) I sure don't view my G26 as a pocket gun. I think the largest gun I have that qualifies is probably the Keltec P11.

sw642. sold mine for g26. g26 is a lot easier to shoot past 5 yards. a lot easier to clean. a lot harder to carry. for me anyway.

I agree with those who favor a Glock 26 for the pocket. Uncle Mikes' makes a nice pocket holster for it and a Hi-Viz front sight is a nice touch also. Very concealable if you are a larger framed person.

ps: for all of you Bond fans out there....if you'll notice, when Bond is upgraded from the Beretta to the Walther PPK, the caliber is NOT .380, but the venerable 7.65mm (or .32 ACP in this country). So when you say that the .380 is the bottom of the protection envelope and that it served James Bond well, think again. He was using a .32!

jimmy,
You must have big pockets. ;)

Docker style trousers work quite well for a pocket gun.

:)

Yes, James' PPK was .32 ... but wasn't his old Beretta .25?

Sometimes it seems amusing how many times I read references to this or that pistol that James Bond used which did or did not serve him well. Don't get me wrong. I like James Bond...sorta grew up on him. But, and it is a big but...he was, after all, a fictional character. None of his pistol exploits are real, none of his pistols "served him well". Of course, we all knew that. Didn't we? Now about Dirty Harry...

I looked at an HK P7M8 before I bought the HK USP .40C. However, the price on the P7 was $1000 and it was a trade in. Of course this same gun shop wanted over $700 for the USP Compact. Anyway, I felt that the P7 had a grip which was too large for easy concealment. I'm really surprised that HK, Glock, or Sig don't make a handgun in the Kel-Tec size range. Thanks for all the input.

I still think that the G26 is a excellent pocket gun. I fact, I'm just about to take mine for a walk. Yes, I do have big pockets.
I buy BDU shorts.

I personally carry a Kel-tec P32 .32 ACP. It is an excellent pocket gun, tipping the scales ate 9.5 ounces loaded. But, in the larger caliber guns, you might look at the Taurus PT140. It's about the size of the Kel-Tec P40, but has a safety and I think it is a much better gun. It weighs about 15-18 ounces. Give it a look!

The first rule of any gun fight is to have a gun. The Kel-Tec P-32 is a gun that you will not be tempted to leave at home on those hot days. When you just can't dress to carry a gun, you could conceal a P-32 in a bathing suit. I for one wouldn't want to be shot with 8 .32acp silvertips.
