Stupid dilemma I've gotten myself into..

Cleaning guns at the dinner table! Wow! You gest? Where do you find such women? Can you draw me a map? I'd by her two.

Honey, pass the potatoes...they're right next to the Hoppes #9.

Well....ya never know but if you end up being a better shot than her with the same gun she may want to change her mind. Had a pretty competitive GF and this is someting tha easily could have happened to me. Good taste is pistols though.

...clean our guns after dinner together, and learn and shop together.

I wouldn't push it too far. My wife has a .22 rifle, a .38 S&W Chief's Special, Dan Wesson VBOB, FNX-9, and an XDm 5.25. She has her own pass to the gun club and shoots action pistol. She's taken two gun classes and has her concealed carry permit.

She has yet to clean a gun....they get handed to me with the question, "Does this need cleaning?"

I clean all of her guns for her and do all of the maintenance - I don't mind it a bit. She's having fun shooting and that's what counts.

I wouldn't push it too far....a happy gun cleaning scene may sort of be like expecting happy toilet bowl cleaning...

Just be glad she likes shooting and start with that.

Duracoat

Maybe you could get two with "his & hers" finishes? Pink and black, red and blue, maybe purple. Duracoat is not too expensive and they have a pretty extensive color selection.

+1 38splfan

That's exactly what I was thinking as I read through the thread: get two different colors. It makes it easy to tell them apart. And you'll maybe feel just a little more attached to the one that is clearly yours.

Buy 2 of the same gun. One time i bought 2 Taurus 709 Slim's for me and the wife. Turns out it's good to conceal, but me 6ft/245lbs with big hands handles rough compared o my XD's and 1911's, i sold mine later.(the wife is 5ft/100lbs)

@APOM- I think I know exactly where your coming from. My wife and I do almost everything together and she will often end up wanting what I already like. I want the variety. If we go to dinner I usually make her choose first just so I can choose something else.
The 2 solutions I have come up with are.
1) Crack her with a brick really hard and sink the body in the marsh
2) Find something else I like for myself
To date I have only used the 2nd one. I have learned to appreciate the fact that she wants the same things as I and even made a bit of a game out of trying to out-guess her. Good luck, Im sure she will enjoy her new PPQ and you will learn to love whatever you decide on. Just in case Home Depot has a special on bricks and rope.

I'll echo what many have already said here. My brother and I are avid collectors of firearms and we always discuss our future purchases before they even happen. We consider any firearm we own to be the other's as well (we live together) so it takes all of the guesswork out of it. If we purchase the same model (which we've done), we will get it in a different configuration. Maybe that's the way to go.

BoggieMan.. ahh someone who understands. =)

I have a very small collection and would like the variety. Plus...what my girl likes one minute..she sorta doesnt like down the road...

I think my strategy will be to get the PPQ first and let her try it out.. Shes only fired my CZ75B so a polymer pistol may not be her cup of coffee. Where we live we cannot find a place that will rent guns to try at the ranges so we can only go off of reviews from others on recoil, accuracy etc..

The 2nd gun was going to be a MP 9mm but now Im hearing that they may be coming out with new models that have better triggers??

@Apom - I don't see a problem.

You have a girlfriend (a girlfriend who likes guns, even), you can afford to buy two new handguns, and you think you have a problem? You see a dilemma, I see blessings. ;)

I hope you find a satisfactory solution to your difficulty.

Hey, buy two of same and both be happy. Just be thankful she wants to own and shoot a firearm. Most women would not want either. Count your blessings she likes to do the things you like to do. Get her whatever makes her feel comfortable and safe. A little competition never hurt anyone.

I don't see a dilemma. I see a blessing.

^^^^^^^^ these lol

I personally have been in that. I got the next best thing I wanted.

buy her a PPQ! better that she comes with you than get bored at the range.

and you? buy yourself the PPQ NAVY ;) she won't know the difference

I would be so happy if my wife wanted a gun of her own. She is anti gun and I have a decent collection started. She hates them hates seeing them refuses to shoot them but doesn't hassle me for enjoying them. She does complain about the smell of the solvents and oils I use to clean them but that's why I built a work bench in the garage haha

We will be buying SD compacts in the future...

How about a PPQ and a PPS? Both of you shoot them both for a few weeks and then see what happens. You can always get another PPQ in the future if you decide to go that way... (Although they're getting harder to find as they become more popular.)

I read a lot of very positive thread commentaries regarding both guns from happy owners.

Some guys "got it", others don't. Enjoy it to the full while it's in your lap!
Oh, and just to maintain the masculine upper hand.. Get a .45- Glock, Colt, Springer... very little chance she will want THAT. Also, guns you have that the spouse doesnt know you have are guns her attorney cannot demand as part of a divorce. Just sayin.:p
