My glock stays in the kydex holster even in the safe. I view it as a form of manual safety because the gun says loaded 24/7. I don't feel too comfy about leaving it loaded in the safe without the holster, sometimes I holster it just to put it into the safe (like after cleanings).

Remove from holster (VMII), go to condition 3, wipe with silocone rag, put in nightstand drawer with a G2 light. Chamber round goes in an extra mag.

I've always heard the warning about leaving a gun in a leather holster. I wonder though, if I carry the gun around in the holster for 16 hours a day without any problems, why is it suddenly going to rust if I leave it in the holster for that extra 8 hours?

My Glock stays in the holster pretty much all the time. The inside of my Don Hume holster is treated with leather dressing, and the outside with Renaissance wax. I think this, combined with wearing a undershirt between the holster and my body, keep any sweat from soaking into the leather, possibly minimizing the corrosion risk. Of course, plastic frames can't rust, and the Tenifer metal finish is pretty durable as well.

I would think traditional blued guns (especially if the holster gets wet) would be most susceptible.

My carry gun is almost always in its holster,When I get home it goes on top the fridge, when I go to bed its on the night stand within easy reach still in its holster (leather IWB.)I do take it out once a day and wipe it down with soft cloth then back in the holster.once per week its wiped down with a light coat of clp.No little ones around any more. The only time its not on me is in the house.

I take each gun out of the holster after wearing it. The expection is my current carry piece, my Ruger LCP, that always stays in the pocket holster. This gun is my daily piece and is always with me.

+1 - exactly what I do too.

Bullet tarnish ?

Slight side question, has anyone noticed tarnishing of the chambered round?
Can this progress to corrosion/ stuck round/ FTF?
Yeah I know "mine never stay chambered that long" but PD JHPs are more expensive than range/ball ammo.

In leather, it's pretty natural for a brass round to get discolored. It is a natural interaction of brass and the leather (or, I guess the oils in leather?).

JN01 - I'd always thought that the idea was to let the leather air out, dry off any moisture and such. So take the gun out, not so much for the weapon, but for the longevity of the leather itself.

I use a leather cleaner/conditioner that supposedly helps the leather shed water. It seems to work great and I have old leather that looks and feels like new. Unfortunately, I've had the bottle forever, there's no label left on it, and I can't remember where I got it. So when it's gone, barring a flash of recall, I'll have to find something new.

Same boat here with the leather conditioner, had it a long time and don't know what brand it is. Like I said though, with the treatments I used, I've had no problem with the leather getting wet (unlike a Bianchi shoulder rig I used years ago that would get fairly soaked with sweat, or the USAF holster I used for open carry on duty)

As long as it isn't damaging my gun finish, I'm not that concerned about the holster as I also have a spare and they only cost about $28 to begin with.

I usually take my gun off and put it on the night stand when I go to bed. If things go bump in the night, I kind of like the trigger being covered as I grab for the gun in the dark.

I store the 1911 Commander in a "quick access" safe, which has elastic holsters on the door. The damp leather holster dries out overnight, ready for use the next day.

If I've been thoroughly rained on (which happens here in the Pacific NW), I clean and lightly oil the pistol before storing it.

I've had too many knives ruined over the years by storing them in leather sheaths. I don't want to repeat this with my handguns.

I've been needing to invest in a quick-access safe to store my pistol in over night and when I am not wearing it. I had considered Gunvault. Does anyone have any other suggestions that will hold 1, maybe 2 guns and a holster or two?

tonight its on the dresser in a kydex holster cause i'll be carrying tomorrow. For longer storage its out of the holster and locked.

I've never had a problem leaving a gun in its holster. Every so often I spray a couple of shots of Rem Oil inside the holster. It works very well.

I remove my carry gun from the holster, unload it and load my HD gun (they're both .357 Magnum revolvers), put the carry gun in the safe and put the HD gun in is designated area.

My EDC (J-Frame) goes into a very loose fitting mattress holster after a good wipe down with wax. Holster is in front of mattress shotgun rack with Mossy 500 (primary HD). Both rigs are held by bands between the mattress and box springs.
