I was just wondering how people store their carry guns when they are not wearing them. Do you leave them in their holster? or take them out each time? I'm mainly interested in just overnight storage, not long term.

Do you leave the gun in the holster to reduce wear? Do you take the gun out of its sleeve when you take the rig off?

My carry gun is also my bedside gun. It comes out of the holster and rests on the platform of my makeshift loft bed.

This is, of course, on the nights when I actually change. Sometimes I just sleep on the sofa with the gun in its holster.

Overnight, my carry gun is removed from the Sparks holster and is laid on top of a nightstand right by my bed with a Surefire 6P light. I can reach both without getting out of bed.

I am fairly new to carry but I see no good reason to take my SP101 out of its holster every single day. It goes into the small safe, holster and all.

I can do this because my main HD gun is a Ruger P90.

Mine gets pulled from the holster and stuffed between mattress and box springs, leaving the grip out enough to grab it if the need arises. In the mornin, its back in its holster.

Even if you've got a Glock, it's not a good idea to leave your gun in a leather holster. Kydex, it's a bit less of an issue, but I don't still like it because Kydex can trap in moisture (perhaps from carrying on a humid day, or in the rain).

I remove my CCW and place it in the lower drawer of the nightstand at night, in the morning, I put it back on.

I have a number of guns, I mostly carry one of three 1911s, I never leave any of them in a holster. Most of my guns go into the handgun safe, except for the headboard gun and a couple of other hidden ones, that stays available at all times.

Take it out of the leather holster, put it in the gun rug, put it on a shelf in easy each. Our HD guns are different than our carry models.

If I wear a holster when I go out (I like Mexican carry) the 1911 comes out as soon as we are home, . . . onto my desk, night stand, or TV stand (depending on what is next on the agenda).

Reason: I sweat profusely, always have, and don't want to allow that to cause trouble. Holster and weapon both get a breather.

All of my weapons go into the safe without holsters. Safe is for guns, . . . my top right desk drawer is for holsters, stamps, checks, rubber bands, baloons, Christmas toys, etc.

May God bless,
Dwight

I live in a three-story townhouse. When I come home, I enter through the garage door and into my foyer. After turning off the alarm (with that I also know if there have been any breaches) I enter my utility room and remove my carry pistol, it goes into my gunsafe. I have a shotgun in my bedroom within easy access (but secure) for home protection.

Specific to the question asked, if I carried my Kel-tec P3AT in its nylon wallet sheath, then the whole thing goes into its place on the pistol rack. I usually only carry this option when in the hot summertime while wearing shorts and a t-shirt or camp shirt. If I am wearing anything of more substance, a Stainless .357 j frame resides in a Milt Sparks holster and I usually remove it from the holster and place it in its place on the pistol rack.

I have a 4 year old son. Anytime that I unholster my gun in the house, it is then unloaded. I usually have a speed loader close by, if needed. I know all of the "stories" of home invasion and all, but I'll take my chances. Often though, I carry it until I take my clothes off. It is so light and handy. Best - Ted

I find myself doing both. Sometimes I take it out of the holster, other times I don't. If I feel there is a good chance the holster may be retaining moisture, such as from rain, sweat, etc, I take it out. If it was a relatively easy day, or I am in a hurry to put it away, I may leave it in the holster. I think I take it out more often than not. Oh, and its always leather for me, no plastics.

I take it out of the holster (leather), put the handgun on my rack inside the safe (keeping it loaded) and hang the holster on the door inside the safe. I don't really care about honest wear on a gun, especially a carry gun.

I take each gun out of the holster after wearing it. The expection is my current carry piece, my Ruger LCP, that always stays in the pocket holster. This gun is my daily piece and is always with me.

I keep my duty weapon in the holster hanging in my locker at work. snubby in ankle holster on top of fridge in lockbox and off-duty gun in fanny pack hanging in locked closet. The rest are in safe in den.

The only time my CCWs come out of a holster is when I shoot, other wise they are stored holstered in my small safe or on my hip, (or in a pocket).

I carry one of two guns ...

Most of the year it's my PM9, and when it's not in my DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster or paddle-holstered on my right side, it's in the top of my dresser, in whatever holster I used that day. I have a 1911 as a nightstand gun, so no need to unholster.

In cooler months, I'll be carrying a Kimber Ultra Carry II. Right now it's in a leather holster, unloaded, so I can break the holster in and practice draws. When it will be carried, it will come out of the belt holster each day and go in the same dresser drawer (the PM9 will be unloaded and locked elsehwere). If I'm using my kydex paddle (usually use that in my neighborhood), it will stay in the holster.

I don't think I'd leave any gun in a holster long-term, just from a condensation standpoint.

I NEVER leave handguns in any holster overnight~! ;)

Leather holsters retain moisture, when handguns are left in leather
holsters this moisture gets on them; which may (and will ) cause RUST~!

My advice, "Don't Do It"~!

Kydex or Nylon (Uncle Mikes type) is too flimsy; and your weapon may fall
out onto an undesireable type surface~!
