Was the state of the Union speach given by the President last night a road map for peace and prosperity for the world:confused: or a threat to change every government in the world to be like ours or else?

Sort like them ole cowboys use to say, and I know you clods out west will appreciate----"Talks cheep. pardner!"

I was particularly interested in his remarks in support of our troops and those who have worn the uniform in the past. His remarks never addressed the reduction in veterans care and bennefits.:barf:

His remarks on prescription drugs for the elderly never addressed denying access to cheeper drugs from outside of the US.

His remarks on education never addressed the administrations reductions in
student assistance and aid.:(

You better get a good grip onto something cause I think its Gonna be a roller coaster year. The "CHICKEN HAWKS" are gonna be strutting.:D

I like the old movie line "white man speak with forked tongue".

;)

Well you either stand with him or agin him:D I find it interesting the take of others on his speech. If you follow the guys who hate him all they find is more crap against him. The guys that like him even have a wait and see approach.

Myself I look at what has been done rather than what they are saying. Bush has some real positives and some real negatives but he is miles ahead of Clinton.

Last nights State of the Union was the same old boring claptrap.

"We're the leaders of the free world..." "There are more democratic nations in the world now than 50 years ago..." Etc.

What I thought was funny was his call to renew the line item veto. Wasn't that determined to be unconstitutional by SCOTUS a few years ago after it was passed the first time around?

And more calls to renew old legislation that has sunsetted and been gone for a few years now.

Of course the obligatory call for the renewal of the Patriot act. Interesting that Bush is now calling for it's use in drug and general law enforcement. Wasn't it supposed to NEVER EVER be used against American's? Huh.

Kerry's "counter" comments about the SotU Address this morning were really stupid though.

Why is it always neccessary to bring up Clinton? He is history, and has a positive mark there also. I doubt that gwb's legacy will be so kind. Clinton has been out of office for 6 years and all gwb has been able to do since then is make it worse, Bottom line.
"the guys that like him" are beginning to see the light.

You're right, I've seen the light. Bush lied, and our kids died. Bush is Hitler. No blood for oil. :barf:

I thought it was a good speech. I think that President Bush clearly stated his perspective on a wide variety of topics.

Anyone remember when State of the Union speeches were meant to inform both the Congress and the Public?
Anyone remember them before they became simple, sound byte pep rally's?
Anyone remember them when Presidents did not feel a compulsion to touch on e-v-e-r-y s-i-n-g-l-e i-t-e-m of passing importance to any group counting more than three Members in its ranks?

Anybody remember Ronnie Reagan?

Wouldn't it have been nice if the thing had gone as follows.

That President Bush, at the beginning of his remarks, took a moment to thank his supporters, and then requested, with regard to spontaneous outbursts of applause, that they please control their emotions, and wait till the end of his remarks? Such action certainly seems likely to have saved some time.

State of Dis-Union

i enjoyed the childish way Senators on both sides reacted to what they liked and didnt like. most entertaining:barf:
and didnt he speak directly to the "people" of Iraq before we invaded there too?

Tony Snow had something about this on his radio show...the upshot being that one is not a powerful person in Washington unless the President mentions ones petproject/department/talkingpoint in the address...Hence the rush by the booraykrats to the speechwriters before the speech...:)

The key part was, getting us off muslim oil, which only funds the 1400 year old war against the West.

They're already screaming about it:
The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries on Wednesday warned that President George W. Bush’s proposal to reduce US dependence on Middle Eastern oil could badly jeopardise needed investment in Gulf oil production and refining capacity.

I think that, without the unfortunate accident that muslims control the oil rich areas of the earth, islam would be extinct or dieing by now. The sooner we cut off their only real source of income, the better. America and the rest of the Western nations should have a crash program of building nuclear power plants, enough so that we don't need a drop of their oil ever again.

As far as modern SoU speeches go, he did well.

As far as laying out a real vision complete with a hint as to how we get there.....well, it didn't even rise to the level of info provided in Sunday Morning Talking Points News. But, then, Politicians are learning that they don't need to provide answers or even the right questions; they need only sound like they have a plan. If they can make the question about "security", so much the better; we'll do anything to be "safe".

I recently read, and was very surprised to learn that we, the US, only acquire 7% if our oil from the middle east. That being the case it would seem to me that any slack we cut them could easily be picked up by european and other global areas.

One of the few things that I agree with ole flop ears on is drilling for oil in the north. I am an outdoorsman, a hunter as well as a gun owner and I have spent my life time hunting in Mississippi, Lousiana and Texas where they do a lot of oil and gas well drilling. I know for a fact that it does not hurt the wildlife and in lots of ways actually helps them out. The only down side is that it makes for away places more easily accessable to the people, if thats a down size.

Safety, I really question if we are safer now than we were even before 9/11.
Sure don;t seem so as I, and most of the world, expect to see another horrendous act against this country and its citizens at anytime.
