Springer Xd or Glock

Everyone needs a Glock 19. They just do. They are just the right size for everything.

I shot and carried and modified XD's for 10 years. I carry Glocks now. That said the Glock wasn't attractive until the 4th Gen came out for me.

If only I could get used to the Glock grip angle. Much prefer my Walthers, Sigs, or HK. All three have the added benefit of looking much sexier in my view.

Except deer hunting, bear hunting, ankle carry, pocket carry, etc., etc., etc.......

I don't need a Glock anything. I deplore them. If they would have put a grip on them that didn't feel like a 2x4, and made the angle tolerable, I would likely give them highest praise.

Yup.

I went with Glock myself but if you prefer the XD go for it. Both are high quality at a decent price. There really isn't a bad choice here.

As someone that owns Glocks and the others, I don't find going back and forth that problematic, but to each his/her own.

one other thought on glock vs hd

I happen to shoot a lot of steel at a place that wont permit jacketed bullets on these targets -- so I use cheap lead 9mm reloads. Fine in XD -- but not in the Glock (and ditto HK) poly rifling.

Those Austrians must have a different wrist than the rest of the world. And maybe are too stubborn to admit they got it wrong and change it. I mean people learn to live with it. I just won't be one of them.

I always thought the idea was that the Glock grip angle put the bore axis more in line with the arms. In theory, this helps the arms absorb the recoil, takes some strain off the wrists, and help to reduce felt recoil and muzzle flip. I could be wrong but it seems like I have read that somewhere. I can't say that, in practice, I have ever really noticed a difference in recoil between say a Glock and an M&P.

Easy to resolve, with a relatively inexpensive Lone Wolf barrel.

Glocks are typically narrower, but I still prefer XD.

I like the grip safety, fit of the grip in my hand, ability to point naturally, better sights, mod 2 grip and slide profile, and accuracy. Plus lead bullets are fine in the xd.

I had one hated it. I had a XD 40 so I went to buy a XD and a Walther PPQ followed me home. After a year the XD was replace with a PPQ 40. OP shoot them both and you figure out what you like and shoot the best with. Also give the PPQ a whirl you never know ;)

I recently bought a new compact gun (CZ P01) and the Springfield XD (and XDm) and the Glock 19/23 were both among my finalists while shopping.

Both have great reputations for reliability. Both can be accurate, and both can make good carry or range guns.

The Glocks are marginally smaller/lighter than their competition in nearly all measurements. While the size and weight differences are not great, when taken as a whole, the Glock is usually a near perfect compromise for a carry gun. Slightly narrower, slightly shorter, significantly lighter (though the XD isn't heavy), and greater capacity (over the standard XD) makes for a great carry package. Though, the added weight may make the XD a better range gun.

IMO the XD and XDm have better triggers than Glock. I like the grip angle better. I've shot both in the past and much prefer shooting an XD to a Glock. Around here, the XD tends to run $75-100 less than a Glock, and the XDm runs $25-50 less.

For me, I picked an alloy CZ P01. If I was to get a polymer gun this round, I was still torn between the two. The Glock has the edge for carry, but overall I may like the XD and XDm better, and the price savings of the XD over the Glock or XDm may put it over the edge for me if I buy new (if I buy used, the Glocks are easier to find on the used market at the right price, so then things would likely flip). Eventually, I may end up with both, I'll likely end up with one or the other in the next 10-15 months.

They are close enough, that I really think there is no wrong answer between the two. Maybe do what I did, make a list of what you like about each and then try to determine which factors are more important for you. Neither is clearly an improvement over the other, so even if it ends up coming to a coin toss, I don't think you can go wrong.

Both solid options. I ended up dumping my XD because I came to like the Glock trigger better, that and the XD felt more slide-heavy with greater perceived recoil (for me, YMMV).

Yup. The PPQ is generally agreed upon to have the best trigger on any striker fired gun in production.

Too light for my tastes in a CCW.

What is the idea behind the Glock grip angle? I never understood the reasoning behind that.

My belief is that it is not actual angle, but the location and shape of the palm swell that causes some [unused to Glock] shooters to point high. I was a long time hater of the mythical "grip angle" until I ended up owning one, learned to shoot it and prefer Glocks now.

I also have no issue transitioning between my Glocks, 1911s, revolvers, BHP, CZ, etc at the range or carry.

The best designed Glocks, aren't even available to the peons. The G17M and 19M finally got rid of the stupid finger bumps and poly rifling.

I prefer the Glock trigger, perhaps just because I am more used to it. But I also think it's a shorter pull than the XD's. And I don't find that the Glock 19 has the same grip angle problem that the larger ones do, probably because it's shorter.
