How long until this stuff starts to really negatively affect our gun rights or the way the public views us? Or until it's used incorrectly, like someone thinks its just "toy ammo" or something and it brews into a major anti-gun rights campaign?

I know it's just marketing stuff and maybe some of you all buy it for a laugh or to have fun with. That's well and good, but am I thinking incorrectly that it further serves to marginalize the gun crowd. Maybe I am wrong, guns are selling hand over fist, is this kind of marketing bringing in new buyers?

While we discourage zombie threads, I'll let this go a bit. Someone in my part of the world is organizing a zombie match.

So, I was thinking, is it anymore silly that cowboy action where you dress up?

Ruger has a zombie marked LCP, is that anymore silly than a Gov. Perry Coyote blaster LCP?

I don't think it influences gun rights.

The whole zombie thing is just pop culture. I love the zombie genre myself, I have the movies and watch the Walking Dead TV show. These companies are just cashing in on what's popular.

If Aliens were all the rage we would see Hornady E.T. killers and a LCP "Grey Slayer" It's just good marketing.

I don't think it’s going away any time soon. There was a tread on one of the gun sites of a relaoder in zombie painted colors going for 2500.00. They sell zombie paint for your guns along with targets that bleed when hit not to mention ammo.

I had to buy a box just to show it off. what seen to fuel it too is the Mayan calendar says the world is coming to an end at the end of this year

"So, I was thinking, is it anymore silly that cowboy action where you dress up?"

Yes, much more so.

Cowboy action shooting is at least something of a recreation of an actual, historical time in the history of the United States.

I don't recall at any point when I was earning my degree in history my professors going over the Great Zombie Invasion of 1927.

I don't have a strong opinion on the Zombie marketing gimmick, but I do worry that someone is going to mistake the Zombie ammo for toy ammo. Because when I was in my LGS a few weeks ago they had some of the Hornady Zombie Max out by the registers and a guy was there with his kids, and asked that very question. He wanted to know why it was so expensive, because he didn't realize that it was real ammunition. Which isn't crazy, because the box art is like that of a comic book. You could see how someone might assume that it's not real ammo.

Hey ! I want a Grey slayer !!!
my butt still hurts from the last time they came over.:D

Really, though ... I don’t think this zombie stuff hurts anything. Can’t imagine anyone taking it as a serious argument against the "gun culture" without damaging their own credibility.

I find nothing wrong with zombie-themed accessories for our guns, the way I see it, shooting a paper zombie is nothing more than target practice, a way to improve your aim in case a actual person prsents a danger to your household, and the targets that bleed are nothing but awesome, who wouldn't want to blow the head off a foam torso?

...is it anymore silly that cowboy action where you dress up?...
And I have to admit that I did this for some years. I even competed at Winter Range for a few years.

It was fun, but I got away from it. Dealing with all the necessary stuff needed, costumes plus a bunch of guns and ammunition just wore me out.

Sorry for this off topic post. I'll punish myself as appropriate.

As for this zombie business, it drive me up the wall. I much prefer space aliens. As far as I'm concerned, War of the Worlds or The Day the Earth Stood Still will trump Night of the Living Dead every time.

I guess that I'm just getting old. I don't get this zombie baloney in the least and IMO is a dangerous development as these pretty monster packaging graphics could attract kids to play with items that they have no business handling in the least.

Welcome to Marketing 101.

I see even Hornady is jumping on the bandwagon with the childish zombie rubbish:

Be PREPARED – supply yourself for the Zombie Apocalypse with Zombie Max™ ammunition from Hornady®! Loaded with PROVEN Z-Max™ bullets... yes PROVEN Z-Max™ bullets (have you seen a Zombie?). Make sure your "bug out bag" is ready with nothing but the best!

That's because President Coolidge started a secret conspiracy, and with the assistance of ancient Mayan scripts, covered it all up.

Frankly, the whole Zombie thing is tiresome, but what worries me the most is that the concept of "zombie" might be a subconscious surrogate for some.

Anything that brings youngsters into the shooting sports is fine with me -- even if it is silly. Otherwise, shooting is an old man's sport that will die when the last of us ol' geezers croaks.

I wonder if it sort of desensitizes people to the consequences of actually shooting another human being. I mean they’re the “living dead" right, so there is no problem shooting as many as we want. Yes, I know it is just some faddish fun to most folks, but it does make me wonder.

Exactly.

And I think, in some cases it's... charitable... to call it "subconscious."

Put my check in the "tired of it" column as well.

Crap's gettin' out of hand.

I miss the days when all I had to gripe about was the tacticool guys and the airsofters.

:(

I agree.. and Hornady is really stupid for starting this.

Making a buck is more important to that company than concern about the perception of gun owners to the rest of the world.

I'm perfectly fine with the whole zombie thing. I think it brings in a fresh perspective and that is one of "fun". Beats the "animal murder" and "covernment conspiracy gun nut" angles. Its just people having a good time. In the real world "fun" is the most valid, most used and what should be legitimate reason to use a gun. I think the zombie thing helps bring that into the mainstream.

I do see a problem with bricks of ammo/guns being brightly colored, kids like anything colorful and shiny, and they see a gun with little zombies or whatever on it, they will most likely mistake it for a toy.

Anyone know how to put a signature on your posts, i've seen a lot and wish to add my own.
