Some Thoughts About the 13 yr Old with the AK and Responses

No, I'm not masquerading as anyone. My views are mine, and are somewhere between the ends of the spectrum from wanting handguns outlawed and wanting no regulations whatsoever. They echo many I know from many walks of life. And they are similar to their views on many other issues that pit a claim to an absolute right by one, with the rights of everybody else

I'm not an expert on guns, but I do know though how people are driven away by black and white ideology: they are characterized. And "If not us, you're them" makes people take a walk, as someone suggested I do.

In a shooting, it is not the person who kills, nor the gun that kills, but the combination that kills, and linguistically splitting either off from the other serves ideology but does not describe the reality of the event.

Why is it necessary to even try to prove over and over again that any gun-control is bad? Especially given some of the above? What is so bad about it? Why must it equate to outlawing guns. It doesn't.

What about axes, I could imagine someone going into a school with a axe or chainsaw. So why is everyone stuck on guns? Knifes don't run out of ammo and make harder to treat wounds, they are also common (hard sell huh).

Killing is not some new thing, I seem to remember this black book that was read on sundays. In it like page three one brother kills the other, but I don't think they had guns in that book. (hint Cain)

Guys, I hate to ring-in on a rather tangential subject, but I've been slowly developing a firearms addiction over the past few months. And, I can say without a doubt that ALL firearms are pretty-darned expensive!

My 1911 weighs in at just under 2 lbs. Go check the current exchange rate on gold bullion. Then, go check the current retail price for a 1911. What you'll discover is that turning "lead into gold," or in this case "steel into gold" is quite easy. You just shape the steel into a firearm!

The point about the "expensive sounding" guns is well-made: Where are these kids getting all these assault rifles?!? I sure as heck-fire couldn't have afforded to buy one when I was in high school! Where did the middle schooler get one!?!?

The answer: The parents. The solution: Prosecute the parents!

I purchased "assault rifles" in high school. Even used the shop's employee discount.:) Heck, the first rifle I bought by myself was an Australian FAL, with real nice wood.:) I had access to many of my father's weapons at age 12 or thereabouts.

The difference is that it never crossed my mind to hurt anyone who did not need to be hurt. If God is dead and there are no consequences for hurting someone and you will get your name in the paper and your face on television, then who cares if you hurt someone?

"Are we sure it was an AK-47 he had?"

The first thing I saw called it a Mac-10. Then CNN said "Police described his weapon as a Mac-90, a replica of an AK-47 assault rifle"

MEANWHILE - I heard on the radio this morning that the father has been arrested for being a felon with guns. IIRC, he had a drug conviction in California and a B&E conviction in Florida. I think they said he had 8 or 9 firearms.
