Softest Recoil 9mm for $300

The Stoger Cougar should be around the $350 ish price range. Used should be a little less. I bought one last year when my wife was taking her handgun class, and needed something for the test to shoot. It has been a great gun so far, and has only had one small issue that was caused by me. (Broken extractor) The part to fix it was under $20 and I was able to fix it within a few minutes.

I think the one I bought was around $350 out the door brand new. It only came with one magazine, and was in a cardboard box.

Recoil is a non issue, and the rotating barrel design makes it stay down for rapid fire.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up purchasing a CZ83 .380. It was a local deal from a friend that I just could not refuse - well below my target cost. I haven't fired it yet, but will report back when I do.

I'll still keep my eyes open for one of the 9mm guns mentioned in this thread, but for now I'm sticking with the CZ.

Piko congratulations on your new pistol. I've read many fine reviews from people that own and use them. Now go shoot'm up! Will be looking forward to reading your feedback.

How about some recommendation on some budget reliable 380 ammo? Cabelas have some Remington 115gr on sale $10 for 50 rounds - how will this do?

Stopped by Walmart... they didn't have much .380 ammo and what they had was too pricey. I'll check in with another Walmart. Any other suggestions on a budget range ammo for the CZ?

115gr bullet for the 380 seams on the very high side. 380 ammo is costly but I happen to reload for mine so the cost drops greatly, down to about 11 cents per round.

I'm taking it as you have a Cabela's near by, keep a watch as they have sales all the time. I cannot take advantage because our store is in Crook County Il. and they have a huge ammo tax.

Congratulations! I own a CZ83, as does my shooting buddy. Ours are extremely accurate and reliable. If there's an Academy near you, their Monarch brand is my go-to for inexpensive practice ammo.

Zukiphile, looks like you're right... the 115g appears to only be for 9mm. The Remington .380 is 95gr and $14. I'll buy that or go to Academy and see if they have Monarch ammo in stock.

I don't know if 9mm would have chambered in a .380, but it seems like the kind of mistake that might cost more than $4.

I use Academy for testing modest amounts of 22lr. Its prices aren't the best, but the free shipping for orders over $25 is terribly convenient.

Stay safe.

Fired off 50 rounds of the CZ83 Today - Gun was really accurate and I could handle the recoil without issue - had 1 FTF which I think was from me limp wristing.

Here's the weird thing, I also shot some rounds from a friends S&W SD9VE 9mm and it actually felt just as comfortable as the CZ83 - I could feel the extra power, but the grip fit my hand so well that the recoil seemed muted. I think the beavertail of the CZ83 bit into by hand slightly which likely made the S&W seem even better. Accuracy-wise, the CZ was the winner. My buddy then pulled out his 30-06 Rifle as he wanted me to experience some real recoil - shoulder is gonna be sore tomorrow.

Since the S&W was that comfortable, I'm still on the lookout for one of the 9mms mentioned in this thread.

Good to hear back with your experience with the new gun.

I believe the SD9VE is very much like the Springfield XD 9mm. The wife has a XD Mod2 in 9mm and loves it so much she just bought an XD Mod2 in 45acp.

I believe I've mentioned that I have a EAA Witness Pavona in 380acp. It too is a blowback design and when compared to either my PT92C which is an all metal gun or the wife's XD the recoil is about the same. I think you would also do well to check out the Witness in 9mm or the SAR copy. Also the 9mm Pavona can be found for around $300.00

I've always liked the look and feel of the CZ 83. It is a blowback design so some of the recoil advantages of a lower-powered cartridge are lost. I actually prefer both the CZ 83 and CZ 70 in .32 acp, no matter how much people knock the caliber. I have more fun shooting bottles and cans with it. :)

I'm glad to see that you are keeping your eye out for guns that both are more powerful and have more agreeable recoil dynamics. Do you have a range that rents or friends with some of the guns discussed in this thread? Actually spending some time with them, firing several magazines worth of ammo, will be your best bet. (Hopefully, you'll get to try a Storm or one of those elusive Grand Powers with the rotating barrel system.)

agree on the Ruger p95. recoil is like a mouse fart.

can be found very cheap in the 2nd hand market. $300 shouldn't be that far out of the realm of possibility. should be able to find a holster for it, as well, but you'll need a pretty stiff belt.
