So what's your Truck/Car Gun?

And where do you keep it? I keep a Ruger GP100 (4 inch, stainless) in the driver door storage tray (pouch?) when I'm driving. When I get out of my car, It goes under the seat. It's in perfect reach for my left hand when Im driving. I drive a Ford F150.

How bout you guys?

Colt 45, I got to get one of those for my road rage moments :D

As to my truck carry, my Glock 26 or 1911 .45 in my holster on my hip. To each his own, but I'm not comfortable leaving a weapon in a vehicle. Not to mention theft but, recently had a large tree fall on my pick up from severe storms. The wife's Explorer burned to the ground parked (then we get a recall from Ford about ignition of the break fluid by something?) Going to get one of those $40.00 cable gun safes for post office, court house visits. Anyone have one, do you trust it?

Usually it's the same one I carry everywhere OUTside of my vehicle.

If I carry an extra, it's usually a rifle. Usually do this when out messin' around in the desert here along the border, but again, I take the rifle with me when I leave the vehicle.

Always have a Ruger LCP on my ankle, and either my Llama Mini Max 45.,S&W 66 combat magnum snubbie, or S&W 637 in the console ( wooden Remington shotgun ammo case! ) and on occasion, my Hi point 995 carbine behind the seat. Oh... it's a Ford F150 also.

I don't keep a gun in my truck usually. Sometimes, I will leave my CCW in my safe while I am going into a bank or hospital.

Used on long trips or when I can't carry. I don't usually leave a gun in my vehicle. Usually use with my CCW/G26. Easily accessible from the driver's seat. Bolted to the floor and substantially more secure than any console, glove box, or cable.

Usually my CCW weapon, a Sig P220 or Kahr PM45, both in 45. For short distances I leave it on my hip, otherwise I put it in the glovebox. When I go camping in the mountains I keep my Marlin 1894 in 44mag laid out in the cab.

None, usually. Having them "on display" in the rack in the truck invites thievery when I go to town, so I an usually empty. If going hunting, then the rifle / muzzleloader / longbow of choice- depending on season- is there. I am not a shotgun guy- never have been- I only own a few, and I do not hunt with them. I don't have anything against them, just personal preference.

If I am carrying and I need to go into a "no-gun area," I will lock it in the locking center console, or the lockbox in the bed. Usually, however, if I am going into such places, it is a planned trip, and I am unarmed the entire trip. I realize that it is not the best solution, but I would rather take my chances with my ability to run away than have a firearm of mine stolen and used in a crime.

I do have one hard and fast rule; The guns stay home if said "no-gun area" is a drinking establishment. If I plan to drink, I DON'T plan to carry. Even having one drink means impairment, and that is all a civil lawyer would need to roast me over a barrel. In even the most 'justified' of uses of a carry piece, the addition of an 'impaired' shooter casts a huge shadow of doubt over the whole thing. I do not take THAT chance. Bad guys, I can fight if need be... lawyers... I don't have the money to burn.

'Truck' and 'Car' guns are a great way for them to end up on the street in the hands of people that have less than honorable intentions.

At the very least, handguns should be kept in a tethered lockbox when the vehicle is unattended and out of sight.

Bingo "ChrisinVA."

To get to a firearm of mine, said BG would have to break into the truck, then the center console too... OR... break into my locking workbox in the bed (and I may have built that myself from 3/16 inch sheet steel- Good luck without a torch!) to get to my guns.

Even with those precautions, I STILL often choose to leave my guns at home. Unless it is ON MY PERSON, it is not UNDER MY CONTROL. I do not like the possible consequences of that.

Nickeled Model 10-5 .38 special snubbie in the console between the seats, positioned for easy reach. I now use nickel case ammo, holds up well in the heat and humidity. This photo is from the passenger side.

Bad guys don't seem to have any problems getting guns, and my car is in a monitored lot or a closed garage most of the time anyway. I have yet to see a "tether" that would hold up to a decent set of boltcutters for more than a few seconds.
