So I just turned in the paperwork for my permit...

Arizona seems a bit hot for me. Plus I'm a city boy at heart. While I don't want to live in NYC I do want to be close enough to visit on the weekends. Looking at moving someplace around Philly. Gun laws are good, it's way cheaper, and just a couple hours drive from NY so I can go to visit on the weekends.

Arizona's not all that hot, depending on what part you live in. Here in SE Arizona, the summer monsoons keep it from getting too hot, and it's actually pretty nice.

Phoenix and Yuma are hot, but Tucson's bearable most of the year.

I was born and raised here in Az, and have never been farther east than NM and Colorado. I have no desire whatsoever to go to NY, and especially NYC. I guess we each make our choices, and suffer our own consequences. I'll take the heat over political control any time, but that's why I don't stray very far east.

Here I don't need a permit at all. Not for concealed carry, not for open carry, not for ownership, and not for purchase. A CCW permit does allow carry in a few places otherwise forbidden by law, but they're pretty few. I've kept mine valid since 1996, so I guess I'll continue to do so, but I like knowing it's not an exclusive right or priviledge, but is instead an actual right.

Heck, I can wear a handgun openly while walking the entire 5 miles or so of the main street of town here and I'd not worry a bit about anyone even giving me a second look. Try that in NYC and you'll know what heat is. :)

All joking aside, good luck getting your permit. I hope it's processed and delivered soon; seriously.

And here I thought we were free in this country!

The entire process for my CCDW was about two months from when I signed up for the class until I went to pick up my permit at my local sheriff's office:):)!
Kentucky doesn't require purchase, ownership, or transportation permits, thankfully they don't!:rolleyes::cool::)

Billy beard:

I just moved from Westchester to duchess county. I had to jump through hoops for my permit in Westchester. Luckily I renewed my permit before I moved just 20 minutes north. Now that I am a duchess resident, I had to wait 6 months before I could apply for my ccw. 6 months was up about 2 weeks ago.

So I called the pistol permit office because we need to make an appointment for me to turn in my application. The earliest date they had was march 12 of 2012!!!!!

Now you would think that sine I already have a permit, it would just be a change of address. Nope!! I have to re apply for something I already have.

Now, after march 12 of next year, I need to wait another 6 months before I get my dutchess ccw. Total time: just shy of 2 years.

Again, this is for something I already have. Between taxes, liberals and gun laws, I hope everyone moves out of this state. I hate NY with a passion. Unfortunately, my job keeps me here. Can't wait for retirement!!!

l98ster: Did you have a CCW in Westchaster? Is getting it in Dutchess easier because it's more "upstate"?
Living here in Rockland County I've heard that I pretty much shouldn't even bother trying to get a carry permit because I won't get it.
To be honest I don't feel like I "need" to carry but the option would be nice. I work in the city a lot of the time so I wouldn't be able to carry in anyway. :(

I had a permit in New York in 1963. I was able to carry concealed, in public. I moved South and landed in Mississippi in 1976.

I recently had a Mississippi Concealed Carry Permit issued. I am also a MS Firearms Instructor for the enhanced CCW Permit classes. This automatically gives me the enhancement to my permit. The enhancement allows carry in courthouses, churches and many more places than the regular permit allows. We have a 45 day, must issue law here. You do not have to have a CCW Permit to possess a handgun.

I can carry a handgun loaded and concealed without a permit under these circumstances:

1. In a motor vehicle
2. Hunting, fishing and trapping
3. On any property I own , rent or lease (including motel rooms)
4. When carrying a large amount of money

There are also 9 other defenses against conviction in the law.

I am happy I live in Mississippi

I live in Monroe County, have been waiting 5 months for my permit to arrive. No one has mentioned here that there is a fee as well, $129 in our case. I needed to provide 4 non-relative (or significant other) friends who were called and questioned about me. I also was asked to provide info for my girlfriend and past TWO ex-girlfriends who were also contacted. Can't imagine what it was like to get a call from a police officer about someone you haven't talked to for years.

Once my permit does finally arrive (9 months to a year is possible), I have to take the bill of sale for a handgun down to the county office and pay them $3 to add it to my permit. Then I can go back to the store and pick up the gun. Which can only hold 10 rounds or its a felony.

I am grateful that I can even get a concealed carry permit in this county, since other places in the state can't do that much. But it is ridiculous and a clear, clear violation of the Constitution.

I got my permit in Monroe county, and actually, compared to other counties in the state, especially considering there is a sizable city there, it was pretty painless. Yes, they called my neighbors and asked about me, and my relationship with my wife. (they take the domestic order thing really seriously) But I got the permit in less than five months. It is full and unrestricted, as I had cause for that. The officer that interviewed me actually changed my application to unrestricted, and recommended it be issued that way. Yes, it was kind of expensive, and all the finger printing and questions seem pretty invasive. But it's done now. When I moved to Erie county, the permit was accepted without question. So I guess I am "lucky." It is absolutely amazing to me that the procedure can vary so much from county to county in the same state. Hardly seems like equal protection under the law.

Billy

I did not have a ccw in Westchester. That's just about an immposibilty. The reason I am officially changing my permit to duchess is to remove the restrictions so it will be a full carry permit.

I was told that since Westchester permits expire, and I am now living outside the county, I have to go through the entire process again. They told me its illegal for them to renew a permit that was issued in a different county. I am literally applying for something I already have.

I think the funny part of all of this is that residents and taxpayers of Westchester cannot be issued carry permits, but anyone else in any other part of the state can carry into Westchester. Again, I hate NY!!!

I read this stuff and it makes me want to go outside and hug a coyote for being lucky enough to be in AZ. I feel for you guys, hope you can get Constitutional Carry sometime soon, too. We do have plenty of room for good gun people here, and the state is not completely desert.:p

+1

:shudder:

I wonder if the ACL(et2a)U would be so tolerant if it took that many hoops to get a typewriter license.

I opted to take advantage of constitutional carry last weekend - it was such a non-event. ;)
