Snubbie .44 Magnum: a viable option?

It is indeed hammer-mounted but from what you say, Tamara, it sounds like a keeper! Damn thing could be worth some serious money one day. :)

I thnk I will perservere with the hammer and see what happens. The idea with the rear sights isn't bad at all. I would like to avoid changing anything that doesn't really need changing.

Has anyone "night-sighted" that big front sight? Can it be done by leaving it in place? I am not really worried about snag on the front sight, coming out of a quality holster, but I would like to be able to find it in the dark. :)

I have no problem with my 3" S&W 29-3 Lew Horton. It's the standard lug/fluted cylinder version. The factory round butt grips fit my hands perfectly and it's just as easy (if not easier)to control in rapid double action fire as my 6" 629 with anything up to and including 240gr factory loads.
With .44 Specials it's a creampuff.

Those Garrett 300gr loads will make people turn around and look for the ka-boom though. And you don't want to fire many of them.
