I have a 4 screw side plate with 1 screw above the trigger guard in front .38
the serial # s 965796 contacted S&W they said I had 1 to many digits in my serial# and if I dropped the last one I had a 1951 MFG. .38 BUT 965796 is also stamped into the back of the right side grip. I have a S&W .38 Special that I'm trying to find out an age or any other info on. I was told it was my great great grandfather's when he was a police officer . Not familiar at all with guns, so bear with me! I believe the S/N is on the butt of the gun? It says: 266xxx. Any info at all is appreciated!!! Thanks!!!
Sorry I won't be answering any more of these requests. It appears my "INSULTING BEHAVIOR" ruffled the feathers of someone in the "COOL KIDS LUNCH CLUB"
I just received a relative's S&W 38 revolver. It's serial number on the butt is
V12***, and it is only 5 digits. From what I have found on this forum, this may be from the 40's. It is nickel with ivory colored plastic grips. Can anyone confirm the approximate date for me?
I need to sell this gun and don't know if it is a pre or post model. I know the pre is more valuable. It belonged to my late husband and is in good condition.
I know it is a 38/44 Outdoorsman. PLEASE HELP.I have been trying for a week to find out with no luck. I do have pictures.
The standard Catalog of S&W lists your serial number S818xx as being as in made 1951 or 1952. The Pre model 23's were made 1950 to 1966 serial number range S57000 to S261999.
