Well, you're right!
I went back and looked under the model 317 listings itself rather than the serial number listing and it shows some "LGT" prefix guns being made in 1997.
Just an FYI, but S&W has been offering some "no lock" J frame models for the last couple years, which is what I assumed this was.
Of course, you know what they say about assuming...

A quick review of completed auctions on Gunbroker shows four 3.5" pre 27's that sold from $1300 to $1800. One for $1450 did not sell.It is a 3.5" barell and a glossy dark blue finish and does appear to be the original handle on it. Would that still be in the $800 range?
That would date it in the 1940 to 1942 range and with the British markings it very likely was lend lease gun.The serial number is 785607.
The book only covers up to 2004 at SN prefix CH.Serial #CJR9XXX
