Smith and Wesson serial number search

Well, you're right!
I went back and looked under the model 317 listings itself rather than the serial number listing and it shows some "LGT" prefix guns being made in 1997.

Just an FYI, but S&W has been offering some "no lock" J frame models for the last couple years, which is what I assumed this was.

Of course, you know what they say about assuming...

Jim

Yup, but unfortunately not the 317's as far as I know.

I bought a couple when they first came out, and gave one to a friend for his wife. Getting hard to find in pre lock now.

Hi al, I am new to the forum, as I am also new to smith & wesson revolvers - I have recently acquired one and would like to know more about its history - it is model 65-3, stainless steel, 3" barrel. Serial nr. is ANS46XX, could anyone tell me more about it? I have only found out it is produced later then 1981... Thanks for any help!
David.

Just picked up a model 36 no dash at lunch.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, I'm a fairly new dealer in Reno, NV and someone just came in a sold me a S&W Pre 27 (I think) .357 Magnum. I was hoping someone might be able to verify with the serial number? I'm no expert just yet but I'm hoping to learn and really hope my gamble paid off. I'll buy the book mentioned above but I need to find out asap if this is worth it. If possible it would be great to get a rough estimate of value of a 90% blue finish gun.

Thanks is advance!

Serial is: S 1097xx

Thanks for the info Jim....I took another look at it and it's defintely a .32. I appreciate you taking the time to help out.

Serial is: S 1097xx
1954.
While it is refered to as a pre 27, it was simply called the 357 Magnum at the time as it was the only one made. In 1957 S&W began assigning model numbers and it became the model 27.
Value depends heavily on condition, finish and barrel length with nickel and 3.5" barrel bringing the most money.
For a standard 6.5" blued in 90% with original grips I would guess about $800+.

laytonj1, thanks for looking that up. It is a 3.5" barell and a glossy dark blue finish and does appear to be the original handle on it. Would that still be in the $800 range? I know its hard to give an exact value but a ball park is all I need. thanks for all your help.

1994/95.

It is a 3.5" barell and a glossy dark blue finish and does appear to be the original handle on it. Would that still be in the $800 range?
A quick review of completed auctions on Gunbroker shows four 3.5" pre 27's that sold from $1300 to $1800. One for $1450 did not sell.
Now, that doesn't mean yours is worth that much but without pictures and a really good check out that's all I can offer.

Jim please help with the date of birth of a S&W model 14-4 my father gave me It has PB,TT,TH and a 8.375" bl. the serial is 19K90XX thanks for your time.

Need info on a s & w 38 revolver

This revolver belonged to my Dad. The serial number is 785607. I've been told this could be a gun shipped to England prior to USA getting involved in WW II. There are British crown marks on the barrell and each chamber also. 3 1/2 barrell. Have been unable to find info locally where I live and my knowledge of firearms is very limited. Thanks in advance.

S&W dates

This has got to be one of the best post ever. Just picked up a 686-6 this afternoon. Used, but in the box with all paperwork, etc. 6" with ported barrel. Now if I just knew the date of birth. Serial #CJR9XXX. Any help would be appreciated.
