Smith and Wesson serial number search

Indeed thank you very much Jim. I have also heard that a gun of this model that is missing an "airweight" stamp is rare, any info on that would be appreciated as well.

There was a short period of time during 93/94 that Airweight was not marked on the gun. It was during a transition from moving the marking from the barrel to the frame. I had a model 637 from the same time period without the marking.
There is no information on how many produced and no premium that I'm aware of.

Hey yall can anyone help me out with a date on my 669. TAHxxx. I think I know the answer due to circumstantial evidence but I wanna know for sure. Thanks

been kind of wondering when mine was made and saw this thread so i might as well throw it out there. its a 357 model 60-15 serial # cly2xxx

S/N 8D30xxx
1981.
SN's ran from 7D10001 to 9D44500 that year.

i didnt know the books didnt go up that far
The latest edition of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson only covers up to that date.
If you call S&W's customer service they will give you the date of manufacture over the phone for free.

Hello,

I am Nico, I'm new to the forum, I live in Argentina. I appreciate the help in advance.

I have a S&W Model 65-1 serial number: 1D 356XX or ID356XX or LD356XX don't know it it is a 1 or an I or an L.

I bought the gun from a friend who has fired not more than 200 shots in its entire life. I've read a lot about the K-Frames forcing cone cracking. I use 158gr loads only. I noticed a very tiny dent, on the edge of the cone. I can see it and also feel it with my fingernail. Should I worry?

This would be the correct serial number and dates it to 1978.

It would take a lot of hot 125gr loads to damage it. No issue with the 158's.

The dent on the forcing cone would only be an issue if it were on the inside edge were a bullet would contact it.

thank you Layton!!

This is the dent I told you about. Unfortunately its on the inside of the cone. It is not that big, but it can been seen and felt with the fingernail.

It is in the inside at the 7 O'clock position...

I recently inherited a Model 15-3 (4" barrel) from my grandfather that I'd like some info on. S/N 15K28##. Any help would be appreciated.

It also has two additional markings just below the S/N, on the cylinder side of the hinge: "11738" and "D1". I assume they're some kind of production markings (QC maybe), but any info on that would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
