No "E" prefix SNs listed for semi-autos, but CS40s were made from 1999-2002.

Model 3913 serial# VAD0869
1994

Serial number 9K511XX

Nothing special, other than being a very nice revolver, and yours should be P&R, which makes it somewhat more desirable than later production. As you may know, it's the stainless version of the very highly regarded Model 19.

Thank you FlyFish for the info.

Please explain to me what you mean by P&R ?

Any pics of what you are talking about will help me understand also

I am a novice at this stuff

P&R refers to "pinned" and "recessed." Originally, S&W revolvers had a small pin through the top of the frame securing the barrel, and on the magnum and rimfire calibers the cylinders were counterbored to the diameter of the cartridge rim so that the case head fit flush with the back of the cylinder. There's a good photo of these and other S&W identifying characteristics here. In 1982, these features were eliminated as a cost saving measure (rimfire cylinders are still recessed). S&W collectors, even casual collectors like me, tend to be willing to pay more for P&R era revolvers, in part because they ain't making them that way any more (certainly true) and in part because some feel the products were of better quality back then (debatable).

Age of my Model 60

I have a no dash Model 60, .38, serial number ANR7XXX - I would appreciate it if someone could let me know manufacture year. Lost my catalog and the new one has not come in yet. Thanks a lot

It looks like I have a stainless 4 inch bbl S&W Model 66 .357 Mag made in 1981 that is pinned and recessed with adjustable sights, square butt, 3 screw frame with a .265 sevice stell hammer nose mounted firing pin and smooth wood grips.
It is in very good shape.

Does it sound like a good deal at $400 ?

Most of us here are getting our serial number information from the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson (SCSW), which is limited to S&W firearms. There's some serial number info available for Colt, Winchester, and some other brands at www.proofhouse.com, and Ruger provides sn info on their web site for their own products. I'm not aware of any sn resource for H&R, but maybe someone else has info.

1975-76

Have you tried contacting Customer Service at H&R? They've been part of Marlin since 2000, so I don't know what they might have in the way of records on older serial numbers, but you might get lucky and find someone who's willing to help you. www.hr1871.com
