Smith and Wesson serial number search

I'm assuming the value would be more if it had stock grips?
Yes, the original grips would help. Scratched out numbers on the frame do not help either.
Not to mention, S&W made a few million model 10's so they are very common, including the older ones.

SW 357 help

I purchased a used SW revolver model 19-4. The serial number I see is
59K4210

there is also another number stamped on the gun 53204

I think this model was made in 1977 but any addl info would be helpful. What is the value of this gun?

The serial number I see is 59K4210
1980.
Serial numbers ran from 57K0001 to 91K6800 that year.
The other numbers are assembly numbers.
Value depends on condition and barrel length. So, anywhere from $350 to $600.

The s/n dates to August 1989.

I've never heard of a model 202, though.

.38 S&W

Gentlemen,

I just inherited an old S&W that belonged to my great grandfather, he was a Chicago cop in the teens through the 40's. It's nickel plated with mother-of-pearl grips. Serial number on the bottom is 3916XX. When I open the cylinder I find 18256 stamped in two places. It says .38 S&W Special CTG on the barrel.

Any idea how old this actually is? Also would appreciate recommendations on where to send it for restoration. It hasn't been fired in many many years. It works as it should, but needs to be replated and gone through.

Happy Holidays,
Todd

Since it is marked for the .38 Special cartridge it is most likely a K-frame Military & Police, Model of 1905, Fourth Change. These can be hard to date precisely as I know of no year-by-year s/n records.

A reasonable estimate would be early to mid 1920s. According to SCSW S&W sold a number of these revolvers marked Texas State Prison from 1927-1930, scattered in the s/n range from 500000 to 630000.

My personal inclination is to leave family/heirloom guns as they are, taking pains to preserve the remaining condition. However you didn't ask about my preferences. If I wanted to have it checked out and renickeled I'd start by getting in touch with the S&W factory and see what they think.

Thank you Dave, I really appreciate the information.

I've been struggling with whether to restore it, so your comments were very helpful.

629-4 Classic full underlug 6.5" with ser no. CCB50xx
According to the SCSW that would be 1997.
That said, I also had a 629-4 Classic DX with the same SN prefix (CCB). The target and fired casing with it were dated 1996.

Thank you, layton, do you happen to know the differences between your DX and my straight Classic, other than I gather there's a 1/2" difference in the barrels?

The story goes: when the classics were test fired any of them shooting a sub 1.5" 50 yard (or .75" 25 yard group) were seperated and labeled as DX's. They were shipped with 4 additional front sights of varying style, wood finger-grooved combat grips in addition to the standard Hogue rubber grips and the test target. Oh, and a $200 higher price tag.

They had the same barrel lengths as the classic: 5", 6.5" and 8.375".

My dad just bought a M15-3 and would like the date of manufacture if you all wouldn't mind. Serial number on the bottom of the grip is 3K530xx which is also stamped on the frame under the yoke above the model number. Thank you in advance.
