Smith and Wesson serial number search

Can anyone tell me the year of mfg. on my recently purchased model 442, SN BSP9908.

There's a bit of a gap in the sequential listing right where BSP would fall. The book shows BRF as August 1994 and CAM as Jan 1996, with no detail in-between. I think it's safe to assume late 1994, possibly but less likely 1995.

Oh dear!

Another pinned and recessed S&W revolver followed me home...:D

...this one is a 66-1, stainless, 357 Mag, # 57K93XX.

Would someone be so kind as to help me with the birth-date of this beautiful piece of art.:)

Smith & Wesson Model 60 Serial Number Request

I was given this revolver by a retired private investigator. It's a model 60 and the s/n is R133xxx and it's in like new condition. Does anyone know an approximate date of manufacture?

Thanks in advance

Early 1980 - the SN range that year was 57K0001 to 91K6800

1974 to 1977 - the range those years was R100000 to R190000
How about a S&W Model 629-6 Ser # CJV5XXX

Looks to be 2004 - your SN is right at the end of the listing in the book, which shows CHM as July 2004, then jumps to listing some 3-letter codes used in various years for special runs of particular models.

Could I get the year on this 4506-1 # MJF1455?
There's no listing in the SCSW for the MJF prefix. S&W made so many different special runs with out of sequence serial numbers that only they can track them all.
That said, 4506's were made from 1988 to 1999 with the -1's coming in around 92.

S&W's customer service would be able to give you the DOB over the phone for free.

Jim.

The only number that counts is the one on the bottom of the grip frame, which is the serial number of record for virtually all S&W revolvers. The other numbers are just used in the manufacturing process to keep track of parts. In the case of your Mod. 10-10, the BDR prefix corresponds to a manufacturing year of 1989.

(1989 = "OLD .38 spc . . ."?? Man, I'm feeling REALLY old now):)

Thank you for your service, sir.

Thanks for the year,,thats older than i was thinking but is there anyway to find out more about this specific weapon,, like who might have used it or anything like that,, my uncle cant really hold a conversation due to old age medical conditions

I don't know of any way to find out how and by whom the gun has been used, other than talking to those who might know. If you want to spend $50 you can get a letter from Roy Jinks, S&W Historian, that will provide a bit more information on the gun, including which dealer or distributor the gun was initially shipped to, and the exact date. The so-called "factory letter" is typically only done for guns with some collector value, but if you want to spend the money S&W will be happy to tell you what they can.

Hello again my esteemed fellow forum members

I was recently bequeathed a couple of handguns and would like to know their "DOB" :)

Any help is much appreciated, and here's a picture of the two ..
