Small 9X19mm that fits MY hands

Find a large gun store. There are some around here that have what seems like millions of pistols and most are the plastic fantastic.

At the NRA convention I tried a very small, locked breech 9mm that didn't feel good...

They also had a model with a double stack magazine that although maybe an 1/8" wider fit my hand perfectly...

Problem is, I saw and tried so many different guns, I have no idea what brand it was!

Clair Voyance tells me they were the Kel-Tec PF9 (too small) and Kel-Tec P11 (just right).

~ There, thread can be closed now. :p

Please press your hand against your computer monitor so that I can measure it.;)

Seriously though, the best feeling compact pistol to my hands is the Kahr P9 (not PM9). Try one.

Try either one of these. I have both
CM9 single stack.
Ruger SR9C for more rounds.

I can tell you what a relief the Ruger was knowing I could get my hand around a double stack gun.
Even tried the Glock Gen 4 but it was still to big.
Try either one of these and I think your search will be over.

That is all.

We haven't mentioned "natural pointing" here. My bud and I were recently comparing pistols. His EDC is a Colt 9mm single stack compact thing. It's the "Commander" or officers' model or something like that. Mine is the Glock Gen. 4 26 with the beavertail backstrap, as I prefer. His has a laser. I had never handled a Colt semi-auto before. I was very surprised as I brought the gun up to firing position and activated the laser, I was almost right on the point of aim. This can be a big compensation in your capacity trade-off, going with a single stack. If the gun points naturally for you, your first rounds will have a much better chance of being effective.
We were firing at about 15 yards. I was just about equally as fast and accurate with his gun and mine, but I've been training with my Glocks for several years now.
He was beginning to gloat about his Colt. I handed my G26 to him with a 17 round mag, and gloated right back.

Clarification

Thanks to those who were actually helpful!

To help clarify my needs and to eliminate the stupid posts...

"How versed in handgun use are you?"

I do have "a little" experience... Have carried a Colt in .45ACP or 10mm on duty and off since 1979. Used to carry a Colt Mustang .380ACP as a backup gun or when a 1911 was too large to conceal. Now use a S&W 342 as a back-up and (gasp) a .25ACP when that is too large...

"As was said... What do you want the pistol for? Range... SD in the home... Concealed carry?"

This would be to replace the S&W 342 which is a MISERABLE little beast to shoot. Obviously not worried about 5 shots being enough. If so I would not have carried a 7+1 or 8+1 Colt for 37 years.:D

"I love my Sig P938 as I also have small hands. I'm also a big fan of SAO though."

Also a SAO fan, until now didn't reaize the 938 was in 9X19mm, thought it was another .380 like the Sig 238.

"Can you rent a 9mm Springfield Range Officer Compact?"

Don't know but I have a full size Springfield in 9X19 with adjustable sights and a highly modified Colt Officers Model .45ACP. Both are way too large for what I want.

"Better yet, give us a list of those pistols you HAVE tried at your local range, and that didn't work for you."

Don't think you really want that. List of what I have is far to long let alone what I've rented or tried from friends.

"I think people worry way too much about how comfortable a gun feels in their hands. What matters a lot more is whether it fits well enough to operate the gun properly, and then what matters is how well you shoot it."

EXACTLY... Don't care about comfort but gun must FIT well to shoot and operate...

Think "9X19" wins the prize!:D

"Clair Voyance tells me they were the Kel-Tec PF9 (too small) and Kel-Tec P11 (just right)." "There, thread can be closed now."

Not quite yet. Although after checking the Kel-tec site I'm sure these are what I tried, I'd like more suggestions on something similar in size to the P-11...

Will also check on the "CM9 single stack", "Ruger SR9C for more rounds", "Kahr CW9 single stack Bersa UC Pro 9mm double stack" and "the Kahr P9 (not PM9)."

If you like 1911s but want something smaller, you might try Sig P938 (SAO, single stack) or CZ RAMI (SA/DA w/cocked&locked ability, double stack).

The single stack sig is a nice pistol... Worth a look if you like SAO.

The new glock 43 is a slim package and a bit smaller than the shield, which is itself a good carry pistol. Holds 6 rounds +1... Shield is 7+1 or 8+1 depending on the mag you use.

The glock 43 is no where near as blocky feeling as their double stacks.

For carry right now, I would look that those three for single stack, and the m&p9c for double stack. (Since you dislike glock feel)

Hey, I'm not the one who asked for advice. When you say you have no clue what you've already handled, it is hard for any of us to give you any useful feedback.

I believe my Shield is the best fitting of all my firearms at this moment. The G43 was awful, I went with cash in pocket last month to Dicks where they were 499 at the time and in stock. After about 5 minutes of looking it over and pointing it, I decided my old G20 was a much better feeling gun and pointing gun. So the G40 is back on my "next" glock list.

Now that the "I need another single stack 9" scare is over I'm looking for a CZ p-07 or something of that nature.

You owe it to yourself to also lay your mitts on a Taurus G2 they also feel great in the hand if you don't mind taking a risk and breaking it in to probe it's reliability.

Smith & Wesson made several single stack compact 9s that might fit the bill. The 3913, 3913LS(Lady Smith), and 908 are out there if you can find an example to try in your hand. They are no longer being made but good examples can still be found. And, if the 3913 feels comfortable, there is a 4013 which is almost dimensionally identical in .40 S&W if you want a more powerful CCW.

Extra-small 9x19mm

"When you say you have no clue what you've already handled..."

You might want to reread what I actually wrote...
I never said I have no clue what I've already handled...
Talking about just two specific models of one specific brand, I did not remember what brand they were...

"9X19" got it right, they were the Kel-Tec PF-9 and P-11...

Would still like ideas on other brands/model that might be better described as "Micro 9's"...

The diamondback and one of the kahr models would be the some of the smallest 9mm out... Close to the size of the small 380s.

The diamondback has a spotty reputation, but the kahr is well thought of. They would not be fun to shoot though.

I would want a little more size. Seeing that you are replacing a small revolver, I wouldn't think a g43 or shield would feel bulkier. Though the may weigh more if the revolver is an airlite model.

I really like my shield, very comfortable pistol and the recoil is brisk but not painful or off putting.

My preference in a single-stack 9mm is the Bersa BP9CC... it's not as small as the Kel-Tecs or the Kahrs, but that was my aim. It has an 8 round magazine.

I have a Glock 42 for pocket carry, the Bersa was bought as a belt gun.

I tried a Kahr P9, but I prefer the short reset trigger on the Bersa (much closer to my Glocks in trigger feel).

Tim,
Have you tried a Kahr P9 or PM9? The P9 might be what you want, except not SAO.

The only SAO I can think of is the SA EMP 9mm. I think it is a 1911, but with a 9mm length grip.

Springfield EMP. A lot like a 1911 and holds nine rounds. If you are familiar with the 1911 this is just a shrunken version in 9 mm. I love mine. I bet you will too.

Based on your post, I believe you Ae looking for a small weapon, but have larger hands. I can't tell if the circumference or the length of the grip is where you are not happy. If it is the circumference, you might want to try adding a Hogue sleeve or bicycle inner tube around the grip of a weapon you feel is getting close to what you want. I have a hogue sleeve that I shortened around the grip of a PM9

If the length is the issue, maybe you can find a longer mag or a mag extension.
