Sloppy Police Work in Colorado OR How your life can be ruined

Why just today in fact, a client of mine (who is terminally ill), explained to me how, last year, he was arrested on a warrant (mistaken identity), thrown in jail, deprived of his nitro glycerine and other medication he needed for 2 weeks until he was let out, nearly dead due to the deprivation, and the name of the person on the warrant *WASN'T EVEN THE SAME* - same first and last names, yes, and same middle initial, but my guy's middle name is Earl, and the perp who is wanted's middle name is Ernest! It's absurd what our law enforcement officials get away with. Every single week on COPS, a TV show actually displays for all the world to see, mulitple egregious 4th amendment violations, week in and week out, and presumably suffer no real adverse consequences from these civil rights violations (other than those particular people having the charges dismissed due to the misconduct caught on tape).

Well - i was in jail once and deserved it , i can only imagine the terror of being jailed when i dint deserve it and had no idea how i got there.

ps. once was enough, never been back:)

dfaugh, Thats why Colorado has moved to fingerprint matching, coordinating between the courts and CBI, to try and prevent one person's information from ending up in another's history. There's still room to improve, obviously, but Colorado is taking steps to work on precisely that problem.

Have any of the aggreived parties filed suit against the individual officers, and or the jurisdictions employing them? I find myself curious about that, as I suspect that legal talent could be foud.

The cop is caught in the middle . Imagine this . A cop goes back from serving a warrant with NO perp . He tells his boss "The guy said it wasn't him". No career boost in sight here .

Agreed. But the offending police department NEVER pays these costs.
